About 10 years ago, I had a skin issue with itchy red patches/spots appearing all over.
I went to the clinic, got a prescription for some steroid cream. Didn't stop, went to my family doctor, got a different steroid cream and a suggestion to stay away from certain foods. Changed my diet and used the cream. Issues kept persisting, family doctor referred me to a dermatologist. Dermatologist diagnosed it as pityriasis rosea, gave me some different cream to try.
Issues kept on, went back to the family doctor. Not much they could figure out, just keep using the cream. Went to a different family doctor of my parents, different cream prescribed.
After 3-4 months of this, got desperate and went to a traditional chinese doctor that my parents knew. He took a few readings, pulse, temperature, etc, looked at the skin issue, gave me a bunch of herbs to boil and then drink the liquid from it. I was skeptical but with nothing improving I tried it. The skin issues went away in about 2 weeks. I was happy to stop using the steroid cream as that was changing my skin as well.
So what? For whatever reason, that crap worked. I tried every normal avenue with no success. People get desperate. I was in a lot of discomfort for that quarter of the year.
The majority of you would probably rag on me, saying that's BS and there must be another explanation and what not. But it worked for me and I was glad to get that out of my system.
That being said, I will always try the common and scientifically accepted routes for healing/treating of the body. But I am not oppose to other alternatives when all else has failed.
|
See I have had skin issues for years and completely understand your scenario here. I have tried both medical and alternative treatments with varied results. I have no issue with this because I just want something that works. But I also think its important to note that experimenting on yourself with various treatments for skin issues is a far cry from treating a child who your medical professional friend thinks has meningitis with smoothies!
I'm pretty sure that you're on the same page here, and I just think that most people feel that way.

Evidence-based grammar indicates that peter12's prescription of "myriad" as an adjective may work, but is no more or less correct than the untreated case of using "myriad" as a noun.

The problem is that, for most people, medicine might as well be magic. That's why nobody takes their severed thumb to the naturopath for healing, any moron knows rubbing orange peels on it won't fix it, but as soon as it gets more complicated than disconnected body parts, any plausible-sounding nonsense seems equally likely to be true.

Like I said, I personally think it is a load of garbage, but that is what the parents in question were saying. Good luck convincing them otherwise because to them correlation does mean causation.

So clearly they haven't learned their lesson. Time to bring their other kids to safety and away from the insanity.

He brings up a fair point. However this is not precedent. It is not new that if you don't provide your children with necessities of love the government intervenes. He is acting as though the government doesn't have the right to ensure safety of children

If this was a matter of social services breaking down the door with axes and taking the kids away in black armored Humvees after their kid was sick for a couple of days.
Instead he ignored the advice of a medical professional that said, "Hey hippie loser freak, I think your kid has Meningitis you should rush him to the hospital, and stop feeding him this bull####"
Then you waited two weeks while your kid got sicker and sicker to the point where he literally stopped breathing you damned moron.
So yes, you and your wife failed as parents in every way, and you basically, sorry bad choice of words, you killed your kid.
So don't weep about the court systems, and how you were screwed. You know who was screwed, your kid. You know who was screwed, the idiots out there that believe that the crap you sell will help them solve serious mental illnesses like bipolar, depression, ADHD and other illnesses that have for real and devastating consequences if they're not treated properly.
That facebook entry reads like a complete lack of remorse on your part, and I'm sure its sitting on the judges desk right now. I hope not only does he throw the book at you, but I hope his actions lead to your shop of voodoo/hippy snake oil remedies goes under and you can't peddle that crap anymore, you god damn loser.

So... just a point of interest...
I sort of get the religious fanatics, who refuse treatment and "leave it in the hands of Jebus" - if he/she is meant to live, then Jebus will save him/her; if not, it's the will of Jebus. It's crazy, but at least it has a certain logic/internal consistency. With the "alternative" medicine freaks, the eye of newt/horseradish mixture clearly didn't/doesn't work, so what is their excuse/explanation? It's not like they can say "well, that's the will of Jebus". The s*** clearly didn't work, so how do they justify their view? What is the explanation that allows them to persist in this view? Where is the consistency?

I tend to think that Jesus himself would have told these morons to get their kid to the hospital.
I don't recall Jesus sitting there saying "Doctors are bad mkay"
In fact the whole mis-intepretation is that somehow if you go to physicians or doctors that you don't have faith that God will heal you.
but the opposite interpretation is true. Go to a doctor, but don't put the doctor above god in terms of faith. In otherwords its ok to use medical treatments etc, just don't forget to pray basically.

Luke 17:2
"It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea, than that he would cause one of these little ones to stumble."

No, you missed my point - I was contrasting the religious types (Jehovas, what have you) with these guys. Or are these guys religious too? I thought they were just anti-vaccers.

sorry, I didn't mean to throw you under the bus, looking at their face book and their friends circles there's a lot of heavy religious sentiment there.
To me it sounds like they're both.

Wasn't the author of the Gospel of Luke referred to as a beloved Physician by Paul?
