It does seem weird to bring them both back for 10 second scenes just to kill them off.. could have been a good cliff hanger last season. This way their deaths just seem so pointless.

Figures they'd build up to it. I suppose "meet the past" could be in reference to different past events. So that makes sense.
A potential Jon resurrection you'd think will also go hand in hand with the TOJ flashback. So could we be looking at waiting until ep 6-7 for a Jon return?

Agreed on the last part. Finding out about Jon's parents would be a great precursor to him coming back to life.

I don't think they can really drag it out that long. The rest of the GoT universe has already advanced by days, weeks, and months, yet we're going to wait five more episodes to advance Jon's storyline by a few hours?

I do wonder if the episode Oathbreaker is in reference to Jon breaking his oath to the Night's Watch.

I was wondering if it relates to Brienne meeting Lady Stoneheart, who accused her of breaking her oath by working for the Lannisters.

Jon can't break his vows to the Night's Watch any longer.
Quote:
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
|
Watch over since he's dead? Check. Lived and died at his post? Check. I guess "all the nights to come" is a grey area.

I can't even imagine the ####storm there will be online when (if?) Jon's true parentage is explicitly revealed in the show before the books. That will be ugly.

I was thinking that and it's technically true, so it may not fit.
I like rube's connection better...Brienne's sword is Oathkeeper...

I've found that in the past they've played it two ways, either the title isn't as obvious as we think or it lines up thematically with several storylines.

Seems the show has done away with any ambiguity regarding Baelon's death. Glad they did the bridge scene, but disappointed they might not have Victarion.
Can't wait to see the Tower of Joy. Now that Jon is resurrected, they may as well reveal his lineage.

Baelon was handled really well I thought.

Tower of Joy is going to be sweet to witness.
I'm glad they did away with the ambiguity around Baelon, and that the entire Iron Islands storyline seems to be streamlined and simplified. I found it painfully boring to slog through in the books.
I hope that Hodor's origin doesn't somehow become a significant plot point in the show. I never found myself reading the books and wondering that much about it.
