I think it will be interesting to look at some of these cases as advanced stats continues to progress.
Some of the proponents of advanced stats have been so touchy when challenged, but if there's a chance that role and teammates is as big an indicator on corsi as how you play it really changes things.
Maybe we'll no longer get the "don't trade for Russell he's garbage" using his underlying stats like a given in a catalogue.
I know Prince didn't do all that well in NY despite the notion he was buried in Ottawa.
Boddekker wasn't a Corsi nightmare in Colorado at all.
Russell has been a big positive for the Stars

Jim Nill is nobody's fool and there is a reason he gave up so much for Russell. Say what you want about Hartley but the guy is an NHL coach and he played Russell a lot on our star studded blueline. Its actually possible the guy is pretty good.

He is pretty good - if he were even 20 lbs heavier I think he's still a Flame. At 170, too many guys can simply box him out of his own zone.

He's performed acts in Dallas I've almost forgotten he could here in Calgary, like use his stick to actually break up zone entries, and complete stretch passes. He's having a good series, for sure. Not sure that's shocking, he had a good series against the Canucks last year too. It was against the Ducks where "Top 4 Defenseman Kris Russell" got exposed. I think the Blues will expose him too, but the Blackhawks won't. All about matchups.

Halfway to a first round pick. The second half will be tougher.
Russell played 5 of 6 games in the first round. If Dallas sweeps the next round (HAH!), he doesn't have to play another game for the Flames to get the pick. If they win in 5 or 6, he only needs to play in one of those games. If they win in 7, he'll need to play at least 2 games of the series. (This assumes that the conditions of the trade are simply that he has to play in half the total number of games the Stars play in the first two rounds, and not half the games in each round.)

He has to play half in each

Hard to tell, the condition is worded as:
Quote:
|
*Condition: In the event Dallas advance to the 2016 Western Conference Final in the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs, and Russell dresses in 50% of the games in the first two (2) rounds, the draft choice shall become Dallas’ first round choice in the 2016 NHL Draft.
|
So they don't specify 50% in each of the first 2 rounds, just 50% of the first 2 rounds. I think that suggests if Dallas swept the condition would be met as Russell would have played 5/10 games.

You say it quite definitively, but I haven't seen it worded definitively. Do you have something else with more specific wording?

If it was meant to say 50% in each series, it would have been worded to not be ambiguous.

Agreed. If it was each round, I'm sure they would have just added that one extra phrase in there:
*Condition: In the event Dallas advance to the 2016 Western Conference Final in the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs, and Russell dresses in 50% of the games in each of the first two (2) rounds, the draft choice shall become Dallas’ first round choice in the 2016 NHL Draft.
