With goalie equipment set to shrink somewhat significantly next year, the two goalies that are going to be available that I'm most leery of are Mike Smith and Ben Bishop. Positional goalies that have pucks hit them like Hiller require large equipment in order to make a fair portion of their saves. If that advantage is reduced, so will their efficacy.
Mind you, if you get either for a song, then you can't really complain too much (Smith is more likely to be both cheaper to acquire and more likely in this situation due to Treliving's familiarity.

I actually think the Ducks will end up keeping Andersen and trading Gibson. Anderson is not much older and has proven not only to be the better goalie but much more durable. Gibson seems to be made of glass.

If the Flames lose out on Riemer, they should chase Mason or Bishop in a trade

I don't. Gibson's contract is awesome and keeping Andersen will likely cost the Ducks $5m-$6m. That will be the tipping point IMO.

Have you seen mike smith's contract? The Flames should stay far away even if he comes with a decent asset.

3 years with 5.667 owing per?
That's not that bad for .915 SV% goaltending.
We would likely get a quality asset in exchange and they'd probably eat part of it, or we might be able to send a bad contract of our own like Stajan their way.
It would depend on the details, but it's not completely horrid.

Mike Smith is nowhere near his 2012 form. His play has really fallen off a cliff recently.
No way, Jose.

ARZ was a playoff team this year before Smith went down and missed over half the season. Posted a respectable .916 in 32 gp too. I'd pass on him because he is made of glass and turning 35. But I won't pass on him because his play fel off a cliff. That whole team fell right off with him last year.

Mike Smith's contract is one of the worst in the league. Do not want.

Yeesh, Eric Staal is likely going to have a big paycut next season. You would think that the only teams that would take a chance on him with any significant contract are the ones struggling with center depth and hope that he somehow bounces back.

One way to lose on Reimer is to sign him to a big money deal. If the Flames are truly interested in him, I hope they stay outf a bidding war. I am leery.

Man, the Rangers overpaid to get E.Staal and they didn't even give up a first rounder.

I love to see Reimer here .I'm also in the boat about the equipment changing and how its going to affect the big goalies like Bishop and Anderson. I also wouldn't mind Brian Elliott or Marc-Andre Fleury so long as they wouldn't cost to much.I think Maf is done in Pittsburgh with how Matt Murry has played so far this playoffs.

So just to clarify, are larger/positional goalies going to be negatively affected by the smaller equipment? I also have heard that the smaller goalies are the ones that will take the hit rather than the large goalies.

If you're more athletic, you're more likely to be able move to cover the ground needed. If you are a positional goaltender that prefers to let things hit you, then you have to move further from the net to cover the same amount of net. It means that you'd have to adjust your positioning entirely or you'll have to become more of an athletic guy.
It's possible to remain effective, but there is more change to what you're doing for the positional guys than the athletic ones.

What happened to him???
It wasn't all that long ago he was a dominant C in the league... he's only 31 years old.
