So you're at a James Brown concert in 1983 and Michael Jackson is in the house, and of course he gets called up on stage to do his thing, and then he asks James Brown to call up this "Prince" guy.....
And Prince is high as fick

There's a bunch of quotes on social media right now (can't really corroborate) but Eddie Van Halen being interviewed in the 80s and saying that Prince might be the best guitar player in the world and Eric Clapton saying similar things.
This was definitely what I noticed when I saw him live. He had the ability to just pick up the guitar in any part of the performance and just play masterfully over top of whatever was going on.
This has hit me pretty hard. Prince was an amazing musical talent and entertainer. Purple Rain was the first cassette I got along with a Walkman for Christmas when I was 12.
He will be missed profoundly.

I went to his concert at the dome. If I remember correctly, it was unusual because the concert was announced, and then tickets went on sale almost immediately, and the show was very soon after that. I think it was because he didn't want to give the scalpers the opportunity to get organized and buy all the tickets. I thought it was strange that someone of his stature could play Calgary so quickly, like he was just dropping in. Thinking about it now, it probably would take someone of his stature to pull something like that off.
Don't get me wrong, it's sad that he died, death is never good. I feel for his family and friends. I just don't get the adulation that has been poured out over a mediocre artist that had one or two good songs. His stuff is mostly garbage.

Not sure if trolling, but it's tough to deny he was an incredible talent and a prolific musician.

What you just said was basically "Wayne Gretzky was just an OK hockey player."
Even if you hated the Oilers and hated the way Wayne played, an educated fan still knew he was one of a kind, and a special talent. There are probably less than 10 people that have ever lived that had his level of musical talent and song writing ability. At least that got famous. His influence spanned multiple genres, and his work is in far more places than you know. There's a better than not chance, some song you love, performed by some artist you think is the best ever, was actually written by Prince.
Anyway. I was never a Prince Superfan once the 80s passed, as my musical tastes became much harder. But man, was he incredible. One of a kind.

Not sure you have actually followed his works or performances. Art is objective, but today is probably not the day and when you spend a little time looking at his work maybe you could get back to us.

When I listen to his recordings and hits they don't get me excited and I don't really enjoy them, BUT watch any video of him live and you see it. His voice, his guitar playing, his showmanship, it's on another level. Just watch that superbowl video someone posted. It's goosebump inducing.

Except for a couple of songs I personally never liked his music or his style for that matter but never in a million years would I call him "mediocre" or his stuff "garbage", that's just plain wrong man, he won something like 6 or 7 grammy's and sold over a 100 million albums. you just don't do that with one or two good songs.
Your post is beyond bad.

Last night on the news they were showing some pictures of his house, and I thought the place looked like a bunker.
While his death is sad and he was taken too early, I have to admit I am always surprised when the tv news folks are able to find people/fans who are in tears and wailing away. I guess I find it hard to be moved when someone I did not know dies.

Bumping this post because of the Prince sucks post.
I don't really care for Prince. I don't have a single song of his in my library, I could barely name more than 1 or 2 of his albums and I literally couldn't hum or sing a single lyric from a single prince song. But he's good. I mean, he ####ing kills it in that clip. Just watch the youngish guy next to Tom Pettey who at one point has a giant #### eating grin just watching Prince shred the #### out of that guitar.
Say you don't like his stuff but it is crazy talk to say he wasn't a hugely influential and talented artist.

Musician deaths hit me hard because music is my happy place. I have an emotional attachment to so much of it, I get sent back in time when I hear certain tunes.

And just for the record, Prince didn't just play the guitar or the drums, but they mentioned on a news report last night he was virtuoso on 20 different instruments.

Speculation on Reddit is that he contracted AIDS in the 90s (most of his early songs are about sexual adventures after all). He then went through a religious conversion period spearheaded by Larry Graham of Sly & the Family Stone to a fervent Jehovah's Witness (also driven by his mother's death).
He had been taking his treatments up until recently when some religious people convinced him he had been cured by God and since then, his health was spiraling.
He was a Jehovah's Witness, at least during the 2000s. Source? My friend who is one saw him in person at church in Calgary when he was touring through. Also a quick google search confirms he was one as well.
