Yeah the Gio contract discussion was frustrating, especially with numb nuts Kypreos putting out that $9MM rumour or whatever it was.

So, probably long term 6.5/year for Moneyhands and 7.5/year for Johnny Hockey?
If Flames get another superstar in the draft this year, things will get really tough for the Flames cap wise in 3-4 years.

Those numbers sound about right, drafting another star and worrying about the cap is a pretty good problem to have. It will be nothing like the mess the Oil have to do deal with in tearing down rebuild 3.0

I thought we covered this. That is how you negotiate. One party comes in high, the other comes in low, then they meet somewhere in the middle.

I agree that this is how negotiations tend to go.
However, I think they skip more of the nonsense for RFA contracts. Without pending free agency, I think the original offers are less aggressive. Both side are probably quite certain that a deal will get done, so they might want to get it over with more quickly.

My dream is Treliving somehow convinces them to sign matching 8 year deals at Gio's cap hit if $6.75M per.

If you're capable of lucid dreaming, try to have Tree convince their respective agents. That's where it would be a tough sell.

I too feel that they will both sign for under 7mil/year. Call me a dreamer, but Treliving has proven to make dreams a reality.

I worry the price is going to cost years though. Really hope the flames max out the term and not interested in the 6 years that Barkov, Reilly, Hamilton got out of elc. Would only buy 1 year UFA from Johnny and 2 years on Monahan.

I think we can get Monahan under 7 but I doubt Gaudreau can be had for less than 7.

Why would he take less than Tarasenko?

Johnny is not quite the goal scorer that Tarasenko is. Johnny does have a higher career points per game though (0.89 vs .80) in 100 less games played. But Tarasenko is a speedy 220lb winger, and Johnny is a very slight winger.
I think once it's all said and done, Johnny end up with Tarasenko money due to his higher points per game.

Sure, but Tarasenko also signed his contract before his 40 goal season started.
Tarasenko in his 21 and 22 year old:
58-58-116 in 141 games.
Signed for 7.5M for 8 years after with a NTC when possible.
Gaudreau as a 21 and 22 year old:
54-88-142 in 159 games.

My bet is the Flames are trying to figure out how to avoid overpaying for Johnny Gaudreau, and would not be all that unhappy if an offer sheet came along for him. Despite his popularity, he is still a very small forward in a big man's game. The unknown is whether he still finds open ice and stays at the 1 PPG average when the Flames start to emerge as a contender and other teams don't just coast thru here.

By your stats, Tarasenko has 4 more goals in 18 less games. One would conclude that Gaudreau isn't quite the goal scorer Tarasenko is.

Gaudreau isn't eligible for an offer sheet.
