Agreed...what a ridiculous post... 2nd year C, starting right out of his draft year...

... I guess Nathan MacKinnon is a 2nd line C, too (at best)

Barkov?...what a disappointment!!!

How does any team get any good with all these brutal young players.

Monahan, as he is TODAY, would be an elite 2nd line C on a team in contention (like LAK, CHI, or WSH)...but he's clearly on a solid #1 C trajectory

I'd even go so far as to argue that Monahan is just as important (possibly even a little bit more important) as Gaudreau is to the rebuild.

Well to be fair, there's a huge contingent of fans who undervalue Monahan, you can even see it in this thread - despite overwhelming statistical evidence to the contrary he just can't seem to get respect as a legitimate number one center from many.

It's quite puzzling, the kid's an absolute beauty and (likely) the future captain. What else do people want? Sorry that he's not Crosby, Kopitar or Toews |

Don't feed the trolls. Monahan is the gift that keeps on giving. He is turning into a combination of one of the youngest, yet most experienced (three full years under his belt now) #1 centers in the NHL. His offensive potential is still improving and I see a 40 goal season in his not too distant future.

I feel it must be his demeanor that contributes to it amongst some fans who don't see the finer details of a hockey game. It's almost like they need to see hard hits and in your face hockey or else you couldn't possibly be a number one centre.
The worst was during a min slump this season where some fans on here even went as far as to suggest maybe he shouldn't be considered part of the core going forward. Obviously it was a small group, but still amazing that anyone could possibly think that way.

Quote is older now but no less relevant:
The Los Angeles Kings may want to beat up on the Calgary Flames Thursday, but head coach Darryl Sutter had only kind words for one of the opposition's budding stars.

Following his team's practice Wednesday, the King's bench boss boasted about Flames' forward Sean Monahan.

"Everyone talks about the centermen in this conference and they don’t talk about Sean Monahan. They should," Sutter told reporters.

Sutter even went as far to suggest that the 20-year-old Monahan rivals some of the best all-around centers in the league.

"He's probably in that (Jonathan) Toews group in terms of that all-around guy who can play minutes and play situations and play against top guys," Sutter said.

He is by no means a "flashy player", but he is elite in the sense that he gets the job done every night. He scores goals, backchecks hard, plays in all sorts of different situations, and is clutch when he needs to be. People forget how good he is just because he isn't flashy like Gaudreau, but Monahan is quickly developing into one of the best centers in the league at 21 years of age. We are so lucky to have him on the Flames. I honestly think he can be a 35-40 goal guy in his prime.

Des from Ottawa: If you could take only three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be?

I’d bring Sean [Monahan], some kind of sports equipment, and a survival kit.

I wonder if Treliving will have these deals done by the draft so he has a clear picture of what he can spend this summer on upgrading the team?

Megan Fox counts as sports equipment, and also probably as part of the survival kit.
