Yeah, I've always been puzzled by Deutschland/Allemagne/Germany. Why don't the Germans (the Deutsch?) insist we call it what they call it? It's weird.

Hello guys! Aeneas wrote me an email, that I am needed here :-) The pronunciation of Czechia is very easy for you - like Czech republic - so use Czech and only add ia. Czechia :-)

Was always confused that there wasn't a short version for Czech Republic in English like we use in Austria and Germany ("Tschechien"). Czechia makes sense I guess

How do you actually say it in the Czech language? In Croatian, the Czech Republic is referred to as češka, which also means bohemia.

I think technically Bohemia is just the west portion of the country now known as Czech Republic and Moravia in the south east portion. From what I have heard many Moravians while still considered "Czechs" hold on to their Moravian identity somewhat.

Czech republic consists of Bohemia, Silesia and Moravia, alltogether Czech republic. Silesia is part of Moravia :-)

I am from Southeast Moravia, still I am Czech :-)

Its weird because when I was there in the fall everyone just called it "Czech", so this new name is more cumbersome than that. Maybe it just won't catch on.

People confuse Slovakia with Slovenia, so might as well have their Czech brothers be confused with someone else too. Punishment to both for splitting up!

I always thought Bohemia was a really pleasant sounding word. You should just go with that...if the Dutch can represent a country with a province, so can you.

Republic of China used to be in the UN and not the PRC, due to the Americans and others not recognizing the latter as the legitimate government. Now it's the other way around, the People's Republic is officially recognized by the UN and the Republic was ejected.

This was a big deal, as China had one of the original 5 Security Council seats and the Republic of China kept that seat till 1971 when the PRC took it over and was recognized as the official government of China. This is why the PRC still considers Taiwan theirs, and to be fair they have a legitimate case, although since they've been separate for almost 70 years, that case gets less and less valid. It's also why the PRC is dead set against Taiwan declaring itself independent and no longer "China".

Not all go by these names commonly, of course, but let's just say it was easier to remove those that aren't.

Also the pronunciation is an interesting question. Obviously the Cz makes a 'ch' sound, and the ch make a 'k' sound. So this would be 'Chekia'?
Are we not officially the Dominion of Canada?
