Yeah, when they talk about this rebate back balancing out the carbon tax for middle income families. It balances out gas purchases if you only purchase about 400 liters of gas a year $200/(.45/litre tax) = 444.
So whatever you do, don't buy more then about 10 tanks of gas a year.
On top of it, this doesn't do anything for your power bill.
Oh and to really throw things in our face they're going to hire 247 bureaucrats this year.
Well, I only buy 10 or 15 tanks a year between my wife and me, but I won't be seeing any rebate because together we make more than the threshold. Maybe one of us should quite or job, or more likely we will get laid off. I have a small house and about the most efficient furnace you can buy, and this will still probably end up doubling my electrical and gas bill by 2018. But hey! Maybe this will incentivize me to burn fewer fossil fuels! Oh wait, no it won't. I'm basically bare minimum. I ride my bike to work every day. Should I stop being able to drive to the mountains to save the climate? Such BS.
I guess the small consolation is knowing how much abuse the NDP MLAs will be talking from pissed off people. No one ounce of sympathy for them, even if they spend the day having people call in death threats.
I would hope that we're better then death threats, and abusing some poor smuck who has nothing to do with this ridiculous budget.
But I am going to be letting my MLA know that this is a joke in every way. That's democracy and how it works.
I remember seeing a resume once that had a byline that the applicant had caused a path of destruction wherever he worked. I think that this should be the NDP byline in the next election.

I have a very small carbon footprint that basically shrunk this year because I sold my jeep for a more gas efficient car.
Since I'm single I don't live in a massive house, and my monthly utility bill is under $50.00.
I'm a dream to the environmental anticarbon crew, but I'm taking a boot to the balls.

I'm disappointed for a couple reasons that are kind of intertwined. First, we heard for so long that we had to increase revenues to balance the books. So we grudgingly accepted increased taxes...or at least could sort of see our way past them. That didn't do a bloody thing though, obviously, as they're borrowing for operations. The infrastructure spend would be understood, but increased taxes couldn't fund operations!
Which brings me to the other glaring issue. All this talk of being too reliant on fossil fuels, and this doesn't do anything to change that. If anything they're doubling down because now we as a province will collect royalties on the fuels produced and then tax end users. I know there are relaxations to avoid double taxation, but I fail to see how this takes us off the reliance on fossil fuels, or anything close to that.
"The next provincial general election will occur on or before May 31, 2019...."
We are so boned.

Like the people who voted for blind change for the sake of change (aka NDP) during the election, be careful what you wish for.
I'm sure it can be worse - who the hell would the NDP put in his place? Somebody with better experience or credentials? Maybe the Federal NDP can send a designated union rep from out of province to help out?
But you only get money back if you make under $50k, which is a complete joke. $50k is not a middle income earner.
If you're an Albertan making $50k per year, you're actually earning more than the median income in this province. As of 2013 (the last year in which Statscan has published data), 58.9% of adult Albertans made under $50k/yr. The median income in the province was $40.4k.

Operational spending is set to rise $2.5 B more than their budget in October, which was already an increase on already growing spending.
Operational spending is going up close to 20% in 4 years. Yee haw.
I think think they are projecting $2b a year in interest payments by then too.
