An octopus at New Zealand's National Aquarium has made a daring escape to the sea by fitting its rugby-ball-sized body through a small pipe.
Quote:
He found a drain, about 150 millimetres in diameter, which led to the sea, and made a dash for freedom
Quote:
Inky was given to the centre in 2014 after a fisherman and aquarium volunteer pulled him out of the ocean in a cray pot near Pania Reef, about half a kilometre north of the port of Napier.
He had a few battle scars, which included shortened limbs.
To conclude: Octopuses are freaking amazing creatures!
Also, I'm sure this will re-ignite the debate about the ethics of aquariums. Inky would not have survived if not for the help of the aquarium but once healed was clearly unhappy to be contained in a tank.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
Really? I find them strikingly beautiful, and a poignant reminder as to the glorious ecological diversity that we humans are so blessed to live with, and understand.

You opinion is wrong and misguided.
They are too smart to be trusted.

Gerry Townsend's suggestion "Inky" was the winner as voted by aquarium staff as squirting ink was one of the unique escape mechanisms possessed by octopus.
Get busy living, or get busy dyeing...

Tasty creatures, but I get kind of creeped out seeing them when they're all squirmy like that. They totally look like the type of creature that can bust through your stomach after hatching inside your body ala Alien style.
