I love the sound of the atmosphere and crowd in the arena though (mind you, other stations tend to do that better than Sportsnet too). So if there was an option to watch the games without commentary I would probably opt for that.
I almost never watch the intermission panels.

Q: How much is your poor performance based on the Leafs rebuild?
A: I admire what Brendan Shanahan has been doing this year. It's been difficult for him and it's been difficult for us. But there's a ray of hope.
Hey, look — the Leafs are the economic driver of the hockey ecosystem in Canada. You can talk about wanting to promote other teams, the reality is that this is the biggest television market in the country. When the Leafs do well, the overall television numbers do well.
On the baseball side, the tide is high. On the hockey side, the tide is out at the moment, but as I look at the Leafs, the Oilers, the tide is coming in.
I'd love to be around when the tide is high on both hockey and baseball.
Is it any wonder Sportsnet is garbage?

Not watching the Playoffs and not watching the World Cup could care less with Sportsnet running the show. Wake me up when the Flames are drafting!

A terrible Batman v Superman movie just had the biggest opening weekend of all time. The Avengers movies have made Disney $4+ billion worldwide. Civil War is going to make a billion dollars.
We like seeing our favorite characters fight in silly, goofy grudge matches. The Olympics can be the solemn, nationalistic tournament that tugs at our heartstrings.
The World Cup is the physical embodiment of Iron Man fighting Hulk. Johnny Gaudreau is going to play with Connor McDavid. I cannot wait to see that, because it's never going to happen again. It's a Haley's Comet level rarity. Sell it like that, and you win hearts and minds.
But in true Roger's fashion, they're feeding us poop and calling it ice cream.
This should be fun. It will be fun. In spite of everything Roger's might try to do, the talent on display is too good for the World Cup to be anything less than a fireworks show. But it won't be as successful as it could be, because these hack frauds don't know how to tell a story.

I am wondering how this might work as I am under the impression that the NHLPA/ NHL are going to split revenue 50/50.
Does anyone know if only the players who make the team are going to get paid or does this get allocated to players in general?? What about coaches?
I know that the tournament is being set up to minimize expenses and maximize profits. Toronto is the only host city as to limit travel and hospitality expenses and milk the largest hockey market in the country.

If you're not watching the playoffs, you're missing out. Don't spite yourself.

I think they get a flat rate for making the teams and the winners get more. I'm pulling that out of thin air though.
I'm okay with it being in Toronto. They want to minimize their financial risk on the first run through - when it's successful and they have game tape to show how team U23 and Europe stack up, I can see them holding the next one in New York or Chicago. Long term, I think the NHL would want cities to bid on the World Cup.

I just casually watched the DET/TB game and then the CHI/STL game. WOW. It's incredible to watch hockey that actually matters. The players are so passionate and you can see players throwing themselves in front of the puck to make the play. Every play counts. Yet you won't watch it because of Sportsnet. lol.

I agree. There aren't many good 0-0s, but that was one of them. Chances at both edges, fiercely competitive hockey between 2 hard hitting teams. Great to see.

There was less than one scoring chance in the third, but overall yes, I agree

No. My enjoyment of a televised game is higher when I am able to watch a US network feed this season. Im more likely to sit down and watch the entire game rather than only a few minutesbhere and there on Sportsnet. I cant speak for other but I know for myself its changed my viewing hahits.

Funny how last night even Sportsnet wasn't sure what channels of theirs games were airing on. During the Pens/Rangers they suggested people flip over to SN1 to watch the Hawks/Blues. The game was on SN360.

They took the Sportsnet cable package away from the on air production team in order to save money. They only know what channel things are on if Bob the Grip pretends to be sick and goes home to check on his tv.

i dont know if they turned up the crowd volume for playoffs or if its just louder from being playoffs, but, the tampa game had unreal atmosphere. i know that its been contrasted here that theres big differences between Fox sports and sportsnet with respect to hearing the crowd (which is a big part of the game imo).
