Looks like Bennett exceeded my expectations by a point, which is good news. Although 80% of CP is disappointed in the point totals based on the poll. He was quite all-around and played against tougher competition than Monahan did, so the point totals make sense. He was also everything we hoped in terms of drive and attitude.
I also thought this poll was for next year for a second.

I was 15 points out ... on the over optimistic side.
Will point out though that if they didn't go development for the final 30% of the season and kept him with Frolik and Backlund I would guess his finish would have been 20-25-45

That and we wouldn't be talking about Colborne getting 20 goals

But I guess my thoughts are for another thread on another day.

I read it wrong as well and was asking myself how did I already vote?

I was absurdly optimistic for some reason and I have no idea why.

I voted 36 and Sam got 36. This happened because I am a hockey savant.
(I never voted until today)

Looks like I didn't play but I did hope he'd outplay McDavid.... That didn't happen but he still had a good start!
Hopefully he can get some consistency in his finishing but he has time.

We should add a category "posts hit" for next seasons expectations thread. Swear to god he must have hit 50 posts.

It also seemed like he got quite a few called back.

Overall I am quite happy. Consistency is the big thing to improve from season 1, which is not at all unusual for rookies. You take out his 5 best games and that goal total is quite low.
I am very optimistic. Calder trophy winners rarely turn into Hart trophy winners and some of the greatest players were still learning the pro game in year 1.

Yeah! What was it - 4 or 5 goals? Could be a record if the NHL tracked it. Probably at least a rookie record.

I took a quick look and if you take his best 5 games away he would end with 9 and 14 for 23 points.
Not a very fair method but thats probably why he preached consistency in the post year interview.

First Line Centre

he had some terrible luck this year: posts, goals called back, empty nets missed, and teammates unable to finish on his passes (i still remember the play where he made a perfect pass to bouma, who shot the puck wide when he had a tap-in). even with average conversion, he could easily have had 5-6 more points.
he was still driving play and playing the same way when he wasn't scoring, and he made a pretty hard transition to centre look easy. one of the bright spots of the season.

with that method who is consistent? this league has a handful of PPG players
he had a decent season, its not like he was on the first line with top minutes/pp minutes
He could have easily put up 50+ in a different role

Well thats what I was trying to point out. Taking away 5 best games doesn't really mean a lot.

streaky for sure
but then Draisaitl had 31 points in 29 games through December then, 20 more in his next 33
happens to young players.
the big thing for Bennett is the move down the roster to learn center, changed the last third of his season.

NHL.com tracks missed shots, and further breaks them down into whether the shot missed over the net, wide of the net, hit the post, or hit the crossbar. According to NHL.com, Bennett hit the post five times this season, and the crossbar once.

FTFY. Let's not forget to consider who Bennett played with
