Id love to try him on the wing (if he is ready) with bennett and a vet like brower or backes and really shelter that line. Id expect 30-40 points. But i agree, I highly doubt he will be ready to be a top 6 centre for at least a couple years.

Thanks. That's actually very impressive. I'll be taking their rankings more seriously.

Excellent. Good chance for us to see potential top 15 picks in Chychrun, McLeod, Fabbro and Jost. Especially huge for Fabbro/Jost as they play in the BCHL so it's a much higher level of competition for them.
Obviously some potential 2nd and later round picks as well.

Anybody notice that Tankathon.com changed their rankings in the last few days?
1. Matthews (C)
2. Laine (W)
3. Puljujarvi (RW)
4. Tkachuk(LW)
5. Dubois(LW/C)
6. Chychrun (D)
7. Nylander (W)
8. Keller (C)
9. Juolevi (D)
10. Sergachev (D)
11. McLeod (C)
I don't know where they get their rankings from but I've been impressed by their rankings over the last few months. This current top 7 could easily be how I see the top 7.

For me 3 to 7 could go in any order.

Curious what you mean by that? Do you mean at the draft itself?
If you're talking about how the different the top 7 is going to go to look if we had access to every team's list, I'd agree. I could see any player in tankathon's top 10 list going top 6 except Keller.

I pray we can stay top 5. One of those top 3 would be amazing but Tkachuk and Dubois seem solid as well. Not so interested in a dman for us but I suppose that opens up trade options. Nylander just seems like a player that doesn't really address our needs as well as others.

There's a pretty good chance a d-man could be selected at #4 or #5. It would be nice to know the order but VAN sounds interested in picking a d-man if they don't win the lottery and EDM should be interested in picking a d-man if they don't win the lottery. If TOR falls out of the top 3 it's hard to say, I think they have needs all over so they can try and take the BPA to their scouts. One team taking a d-man could start a run on d-men as well if there is a big desire for them overall by the teams selecting in the top 10.
If the Flames pick drops to 6th and one of the teams in the 4-5 range take a d-man then one of Tkachuk/Dubois would drop to 6th.
If the Flames end up drafting 6th or 7th I wonder how aggressive Treliving would be in attempting to trade up a couple spots? I think trading into the top 3 from there would be nearly impossible. But trading into 4th/5th could be possible. I guess it depends how they see the tiers and if they have a strong preference for a guy in the 2nd tier. He does have 2nd rounders to burn if they decide they'd like to move up. At least this point I'm not sure it would be worth it to move up. You're guaranteed a pretty good prospect top 7, not sure 4th/5th is substantially better than 6th/7th.

If Toronto falls out of the top 3 then I think they try to trade back a spot or two and go with Nylander.
Would be a fit there and it unites him with his brother.

If we can't get Matthews or Puljujarvi, I will hope and pray we get Michael Mcleod. This kid has world class acceleration and his skills are still developing. Plus he's got size and is a RH shooter. I think he would make a good fit for the team although hes a C.

Do you prefer Mcloed over Laine? I am of the opinion that Laine is almost on par with Matthews.

I've got McLeod just behind Nylander FWIW. Outside of the big 3 and Nylander, McLeod is my favorite. Old news if you've been following this thread but I am happy more folks are picking up on him. I really believe he's a really perfect fit for the Flames.
My question is can the Flames trade down and get some extra assets on top of McLeod. I suspect this question will raise some stink.

When is the last time (besides NJ and Brodeur) that a team traded down and won a trade?
I hope we draft the BPA regardless of where we pick.

Yeah, at the draft. Matthews and Laine are the top two and the rest up to Nylander could go in almost any order depending on needs and various team scouting opinions. I'm not as high on Puljujarvi as some are and include him with the others from 3-7.

Ya this is definitely true but it is nice to control your own fate. Although we seem to really luck out with players falling to us so who knows. Maybe it happens yet again.

Puljujarvi fails to accomplish a pull-up and falls to the Flames.

Side note: I've been pronouncing Laine like Lane
But my Finnish buddy just corrected me, it should be Lah Nay
