I just watched Hiller's interview. The guy really seems to have a hard time with accountability. He said he didn't think the goaltending was horrible this season and blamed the defense giving up too many scoring chances. I remember him doing the same thing earlier in the season when he was pulled and sat in the dressing room for a while pouting. He said he thought the goals weren't his fault and once Hartley told him he was pulled as a message to the team he felt better.

Good riddance.

Even if you believe what he seems to be believe, he needs to own it in a quote just like Giordano does in his exit interview.

It's hard to be judgemental from afar but for me there were two things down the stretch.

1) Wills interviewed about how great a guy Backstrom was/is behind the scenes. Mentioned work ethic, attitude, so he wanted to see him get one more start. Was asked about Hiller ... "don't see those same things"

2) Nakladal almost loses an eye. Heads to the bench where two Flames (one is Stajan get up and come over to check on him. In the background is Hiller looking bored and chewing gum.

Likely not fair, but left a taste for me.

Ya, that Hiller interview was laughable. He made it seem like the problem was too many quality scoring chances on him when in reality he can't track a powder puff floater from the blue line. At least he was realistic that he won't even have a job in the NHL next year.

As for his contract, Monahan says: “I don’t know when it’ll get it done, but it’ll get done.” #Flames

Monahan says he suffered a shoulder injury in the final game of the season and had a hand injury bugging him for quite some time. #Flames

Monahan says he’s “pretty banged up” so won’t be going to the World Championships. #Flames

Ortio
- We're all in this together, some blame on the goaltenders, some on the defense. Goaltending easy to blame and some truth in the poor numbers for sure.
- kind of glad to finish season strong, but doesn't change that he started season poorly
- going to make some tweaks in his offseason regimen but nothing major. Trains with some NHLers, same trainer for 4-5 years
- can't pinpoint why he started slow, he's been trying to figure out the slow start
- 3 goaltenders wasn't easy - don't know what's going to happen, a lot of hassle. But can't hide behind the excuse.
- wants opportunity to fight for #1 spot, if he doesn't earn it it's on him.

Well, if you ever follow what Anaheim fans say, it is that Hiller always throws his team under the bus and blames them. That is why - as fans - they were happy to see Hiller leave. I believe there was a quote in the last Anaheim game within the "Around the League Report". Fans don't have a high opinion of his character there. Seems he hasn't improved in that area.

I really 'feel' for Backstrom having to call it a career, but not so with Hiller (even though he did help the Flames to the post-season last year).

Is Ramo still around town, or is he back home healing?

-Flames will qualify him
-Some teams see value there possibly
-Value is an open ended term that could be as little as a late round pick.
-Ortio was good down the stretch.

Good riddance.
He most definitely had an interview like that during the season, I also recall it.

Good riddance is right!

Johnny
-Young Team, needs to learn from this. First time ever missed a post-season.
-No progress on contract. Brad was busy, but sure they'll get it done.
-Agent knows best, but loves city / coaches/ management / players
-World Cup not the best idea without a contract. Undecide
-Not too worried about contract timeline, agent and brad will do their thing.
-More comfortable on ice. Road numbers not great but loves playing at dome
-Johnny and Monny faced other teams' Top D
-Healthy.
-Some buddies in the playoffs, will watch
-Wearing a letter not up to him but if they gave him the responsibility he would gladly try to do it. Sean did a great job. Prides himself in being an offensive guy, needs to be better on the road.
-Going back to BC
-hard to make comebacks like last season. Gotta play with lead and try to protect it.

It looks like the only Flame on Team Canada at the Worlds will be Treliving.

Depending on who else turns them down, and how the first round of the playoffs goes, it would be nice to see Colborne get an invite (although, he's in the same contract situation as Johnny and Monahan).

Would love to see Bennett go to the World Championships. Good opportunity for a player that age.

Sam
-Needs to be way more consistent, can't go on scoring lulls
-Bob made sure he focused on not cheating / defense first etc
-Not sure if he will be LW or C, but thought the 20+ games at C were really helpful and expects to start at C next season
-healthy

Ferland
-needs to be more consistent, bringing it every night
-will be in Calgary for the summer, focusing on next season after a few days off
-be more physical, around the puck more and hard on it.
-Doesn't know where he will play or with who
-missing playoffs sucks

Nakladal
- Got a great opportunity to show he can be here.
- Thinks he did a good job but knows he can be better
- Great group of guys, made plenty of new friends. Compared with other teams, one of the best. Playoffs was goal but believes in them
- Biggest challenge is to show he wasn't lucky, knows what he has to do over the summer

thru all these interviews what I really enjoy hearing is how well the new guys found a fit. In my opinion culture is everything and a team that believes is a team that succeeds.
