What is the maximum you would be willing to move in order to draft top 3 ( lets say second)
My preference would be 2 seconds but if a team is asking I would be willing to move a young ready dman ( kulak, worherspoon) or even kylington(wont be a popular opinion)
strenght to weakness is my reasoning here.
Whats yours?

I dunno, just speculating but with what I'm reading about the scouts opinion of the big drop from the top 3 to the next tier of 6 or so, I think it would cost a lot more than either of those offers to move from 6 to 3. I bet a team would want an established young NHL player with big upside to even consider it. Otherwise why is it even worth their while - if the Flames won, would you move out of the big three for a 2nd or two or an above average d prospect? I'd be pretty disappointed if they did.
Maybe maybe outside chance somebody loves Dubois and would move down 1 or 2 slots to 4 but I don't see dropping 3 or 4 slots.
The one exception is if Oilers weren't idiots and get a top three pick they should move it for pick 5 or 6 and take a dman with how forward heavy they are and how brutal their D is (we all know they're not smart enough to do that and will take another flashy toedragging forward though) but they'd want and should get a huge return.
Seems like in the cap era high picks are only getting more valuable because of the cost control and the ability to market those players.

But what would you be okay with parting with in order to move up

So are you asking the price to move up from #6 to #2? I think the price would be extremely high. Probably higher than we'd realistically be willing to pay. In 2013 Feaster apparently offered all three 1st rounders (#6, #22, #28) for #1 and was turned down. I think the price to move from #6 to #2 would be similar. Therefore it would take substantially more than two 2nds.
Hmmmm. If I'm drafting #2 probably the only thing I'm trading down to #6 for is some overpayment like Jankowski, Andersson and two 2nds, and #6. Its so risky to trade down out of the top few spots that GMs will only trade down for an overpayment. I think they'd want two of our best prospects (Jankowski, Gillies, Andersson, Kylington) plus picks.
I think trading up into the top 3 is only realistic to trade into #3 from #4 or #5. I could see the team at #3 needing a d-man bad and be willing to deal down a spot or two.

I would give up our 2017-1st+2016-1st (assuming 6th-ish) for Laine. I don't think that would be enough for 1st overall, but I would do that too obviously. I don't think we have any other expendable assets that would pique the interest of a team drafting 2nd. I agree with EV, I would do it for Laine, but probably not Puljujarvi.

Ya that was the hypothetical part I was asking about. What would the maximum you would pay to move up. Not what you think it would cost us to move up.
Think as in if treliving traded up. What would you be okay with.

Personally I would make that trade for any top 3 spot.

Ya I should have said that the 2017-1st is the most I would give up. I would throw other peices in there (Jankowski, Kylington) but I don't think that moves the needle for the other team really. Laine is going to be a beast, not so sure about Puljujarvi. He'll probably be good, don't get me wrong but I see Laine as a consistent 40 goal threat as soon as 17/18

What's with all this trade up talk? You guys are aware that there's no higher spot to pick than first overall, right? We can't draft zero overall. Matthews tunnel vision. He's a Flame already. It was foretold eons ago by the wise ones.

I can only dream of gaudreau dishing him for those 40.
Good god that would be a epic line
Gaudreau - monahan - laine.

I'm usually really negative (realistic?) about stuff like this but I have a weird feeling about this one. I think we're drafting 1st or 2nd.

The price to move up depends on how you view the tiers. For me:
Tier 1: Matthews, Laine
Tier 2: Puljujarvi
Tier 3: Tkachuk, Dubois, Chychrun
Tier 4: Sergachev, Juolevi, Nylander
To move from tier 3 to tier 1 isn't realistic. They'd want an absurd overpayment.
I think you can move from tier 3 to tier 2 only if the team sitting at #3 is badly in need of a defenseman.

I don't think a pick a year from now is very tempting to move down. I think a team sitting with the #2 puck would demand two of our top prospects (Jankowski, Gillies, Andersson, Kylington) plus a 2nd rounder at the least. Not a price we'd want to pay.
I mean reverse it. If we had the #2 pick what would we demand to move down. The moon! Because we'd rather just pick Laine. So someone would have to vastly overpay for us to consider moving down and not taking Laine.

So essentially Dubois/Tkachuk+Gillies+Kylington+2nd?
Yeah I would be leery about that but there's a good chance it looks amazing for Calgary in 3 years IMO. It could also blow up in our faces but only if Gillies becomes a clear #1 and Kylington a top 4.
You're right though, that is too high a price based off what we know today.

I'll be super happy with McLeod OR Sergachyev @ 6-8. If the Flames win a lotto Finn, all the better. But we better get to know the 6-10 ranked players now.

Yup, at 4th you hope one of the big 3 drop. At 6th, you hope you win or that you don't drop any lower.
