Offense is not the problem with this team.
PK and goaltending are the main on ice issues.
|
And I say the problem(s) are 1 in the same. Goalie is the best pker and if goalie is better pk will be better.

Manual count here, so forgive some typing errors and +/- 1 counting issues...got back from the game not too long ago:
Calgary - 6 (currently listed on that site as 5 - doesn't include Backlund yet)
Arizona - 5 (initially miscounted as 4 - see AC's list below)
Nashville - 4
Boston - 3
Chicago - 3
Columbus - 3
Dallas - 3
Minnesota - 3
Pittsburgh - 3
Vancouver - 3
Washington - 3
Anaheim - 2
Buffalo - 2
Carolina - 2
Edmonton - 2
LA - 2
New York Islanders - 2
New York Rangers - 2
San Jose - 2
Toronto - 2
Winnipeg - 2
Colorado - 1
Detroit - 1
Montreal - 1
Ottawa - 1
Philadelphia - 1
Tampa Bay - 1
And apparently Florida, New Jersey, and St. Louis have 0.

Hopefully the hockey Gods can shine down on us for not tanking. Just watching us, the shot count, the compete... everyone is playing with pride.
Then you look at Vancouver's effort tonight... it's disgusting. Between them and Edmonton, hoping they get pushed back as far in the draft as possible for being so tankishly terrible.

Also of note, the Flames allowed the following hattricks against:
Weise, Ristolainen, Zibanejad, Schenn, Parise.

I don't agree completely. As bad as the goaltending has been this year, the PK has been just awful to watch. Ditto for the team defense at times. My issues this season, in order.
Goaltending.
PK.
Team defense.
PP.
If the goalies and special teams get sorted out this summer there's no way this team shouldn't at least challenge for a wild card spot next season.

While goaltending was definitely lacking, you'd have to be simple to think 4 goalies having career lows at the same time is coincidence

You make a good point, but that said, even team defense is differently viewed if the goaltending is better. It's chicken and egg though. If goalies were better, defense would be better. If defense was better goalies would be better.

Hiller let in some really, really bad goals. Ramo as well at times. Ortio looked bad earlier this season. I definitely lay the blame more at the goalies than the defense/team defense.

Goaltending was overall terrible this year. Easily and obviously by far the biggest reason we missed the playoffs. You'd have to be simple or have not watched the games to think otherwise.

I don't disagree with you. I'm only saying the team defence was also terrible. I'd even say goaltending was as much as 2/3rds of the problem

Does the Weise one have to count when it was against ECHL level goaltending that night?

I wonder how the Sedins are stomaching this. Not the greatest way to wind down your career on what is looking like the leading contender to be the worst team in the NHL next season. That team is just horrible and it looked at times 5 on 5 like the Flames were on extended powerplays in the Canucks end of the ice. Could have easily been a 10+ goal night if Miller doesn't make some really good saves in the first half of the game.

Given how the Sedins played last night (same as everyone else), I think they are stomaching it just fine. They don't seem to care anymore either.
And the Canucks are a legitimately worse team than Edmonton or Toronto. Overachievement in the first third of the season is the only thing that prevented them from Buffaloing this season. And this is for a team that wasn't trying to tank.

I remember I used to dread playing the Sedins. Always seemed like they would cycle it for 20 minutes a game in our end and get 2 goals. Not last night!
Good environment as well last night, the wave was legit haha.
So what if we start playing Stajan as a RW?
