not quite, -13 since the turn of the year. Doesn't bother me, plenty of good defencemen on teams have crappy +/- stats and nobody cares. He does more than enough offensively and has years of improvement on his side. This guy could easily be a 40-50 point defencemen for the next decade for us. That'll do for me.

Is that not the CORE of the Flames future??
Colborne is more of a passenger in that group. The other six are definitely making a case that they are a group worth building around though.

It depends on when you start counting. He is only minus-5 since 31 Oct, and minus-3 since 3 Nov. Clearly he had some ups and downs all season, but I think everyone must be more than happy with him overall since the first month or six weeks of the season.

Colborne is one goal shy of being a 20 goal scorer. That's no easy feat for the NHL. Especially considering he has less than 45% offensive zone starts and plays the 3rd highest quality of competition. Plus he's 15th in Flames TOI/GP and putting up a 0.61ppg

Those aren't the stats of a passenger.

Colborne is not part of the core. He has had a great year yes, but realistically he has had a tons of luck on goals, and he probably won't repeat those numbers next year. I have no problem keeping him, but I'd try and trade him while his value is high!

Well I never said he's a part of the core, but for arguments sake, he's only 26 (has 4 more years of prime hockey) and is an RFA still. Not to mention he's a 6'5" winger and a local boy. I understand he's gotten some good power play time and has a high shooting percentage, but I don't see any point in trading him unless it was for an upgrade

They're the stats of a Curtis Glencross. Whatever you want to call that, it's not what I consider a core piece.

I remember the days when the core of the Flames was:

Iginla
Tanguay
Cammalleri
Jokinen
Glencross
Bouwmeester
Kiprusoff

Ah, those were the days. The 2011-12 days.

Colborne is secondary scoring you sign longer term, and trade only to trade up. He fills a role, he's part of the solution I think. He's only played three full seasons, I see him maintaining this pace for a few years to come.

Edit: thought I posted in the wrong thread but this one is just derailed. Dougie is the kind of ballsy acquisition that is going to pay off long term

I like joe. But he filed for arbitration before. If he files again, and wins, the Flames may just walk away.

I get the sense Joe would sign within Trelivings cap structure. He wants to win here, and he's a community guy. I smell a good long term deal for him that is around 2.5

He is a guy that should take his pay day an run. If I was him I would try to get as much money as I could out of it before people realize that I can be replaced easily

How is that a bad thing and in what world was prime Glencross not a core piece? Prime Glenny put up 25 goals on a sweetheart deal. He was the envy of the league and on every fantasy NHL 2013 roster in order to fit a team under the cap.

Glenny scored a ton off the rush and through hard work. Colborne is scoring by having his big body in the crease and cleaning up. But if Colborne became another Glencross that's a huge win and I would take that anyday.

Came looking for Hamilton accolades, left wondering if Colborne is Glencross 2.0

Wasn't there someone wanting Hamilton traded in the first week or two saying he was terrible and his contract was an anchor or something?

Kind of a good example of why not to freak out in the first two weeks of October.

Pffft...who cares about points? Sure he's scoring a lot of points but he's not an all around defender like we really need, now if we could get a real franchise defenceman like reinheart, that would totally be better!

Oh ya, he's uppity and over paid and bad in the dressing room and the guys used with the picks we traded him for are the best in the world!! And his Elsa impression was terrible!

Lol I honestly can't believe there are some people who believe any of that crap. The kid is still a potential franchise defenceman and fits on this team perfectly. I would like it if he developed a bit of a mean streak but I still love his game. One of the best deals the flames have made in a long time.

That number, though thankfully not large, grew steadily throughout the first two months.

And I know it's a bit of a different context, but most of the same ilk were echoing those sentiments towards Giordano.

Whoops.
