Man, looks like they got hit hard by the Canadian dollar. That's pretty rough compared with previous years.

Was going to say the same thing. If you're a hip-hop fan then you're going to be in heaven at Pemberton, but the rest of the lineup leaves a lot to be desired. The Killers were just added today. Too bad because I was really considering going, but there just aren't a lot of acts that I need to see who won't probably be at Rifflandia in September.

Everyone's favorite festival joke aside, that looks like it would be an absolute blast. It was started by a 17 year old kid ten years ago, and grew into a ****show, fun festival beside the lake.

For what it is, that's a lot of bands for people in their mid twenties to mid thirties to get drunk and rock out to for a weekend. Not every festival can be Glastonbury and Canadian festivals in this economy are lucky if they're even a go.

I didn't say it would be bad, but basically they went to Billboard top 100 from 2003 and pulled every piece of pop punk, rap-core and then made a festival. If it was closer, I'd consider going depending on price.

A lot of new hip hop is great for festivals. No elaborate set designs. 45 minute sets and aside from headliners (Kendrick, JayZ, Eminem, people of this caliber) most rappers just use a DJ so like you said, cheaper to tour.

I went to Pemberton the first year of the reboot because of the hip hop since we don't get a lot of great acts here in Calgary and when we do it's at some bar on a wednesday and they don't go on stage until midnight.

I've seen most of those artists already so I'll probably pass this year but if it interests you, it's a great festival.

Finally, GIRL TALK, was probably the most fun I've had in my entire life, do yourself a favour and go see him.

I like my music in small smokey dives, not that anyone's allowed to smoke anymore. The Wild Buffalo in Bellingham is my favourite these days. The Biltmore or the Rickshaw in Vancouver.
Never been a festival guy, which sucks as this looks like it will be the last home of live music.

Although saying that I always enjoy bumbershoot but that's in the middle of Seattle, not exactly the great outdoors.

http://www.under-main.com/big-ears-b...usic-festival/
It was around hour seven of waiting to see Radiohead at Bonnaroo 2006 when I almost lost it. Seven hours of standing in the same ever-shrinking patch of shadeless grass, a constantly growing mass of humanity closing in, closer and closer, until there wasnt even enough room to sit on the ground.
Simultaneously growing more claustrophobic and bored, I stood there longer and longer eight hours, nine hours, ten hours no beer runs, no bathroom breaks, no way to exit the crowd, even if I needed to. All this to see Radiohead
and I was still 150 yards away.
Such was the tale the whole weekend. I got to see some great bands under terrible conditions, from far away, while hungry, thirsty, and sunburned. It was an endurance event, and I endured but wasnt it supposed to be about fun, not just surviving the experience?
Well, if youre not prepared (or just unwilling) to battle the crowds of thousands for a distant glimpse of your favorite acts, there is a festival alternative: the multi-venue music festival.
Showcase multiple locations in a citys downtown and provide people with high quality, small scale, intimate shows.
I much prefer the multi-venue festival. Sled Island is great - would love to see Treefort and SXSW. I don't enjoy being in a parking lot or farmer's field with 50,000 bros and girls screaming "wooooo".

Never been a festival guy, which sucks as this looks like it will be the last home of live music.

Although saying that I always enjoy bumbershoot but that's in the middle of Seattle, not exactly the great outdoors.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind going to bars for shows, but I'm not going to go see Run the Jewels on a tuesday at commonwealth. They probably won't be done until after midnight and I have two kids and a job, it's just too difficult.
