[News] Flames recall Drew Shore on emergency basis

Shore is the 4th leading scorer for the Heat this season (well, not counting Shinkaruk's points in Utica anyways), and everyone above him plus Poirier and Hathaway below him have had a call-up (though Hathaway was obviously recalled for different reasons other than scoring).

Hope he shows better this time around, though it is a short look. He seemed very vanilla to me in the NHL - didn't stand out much in any way. He is a 25 year old with more NHL experience than any other call-up thus far, so one would expect a bit more from him. I would agree with the posts above that if he doesn't impress this time around in the next game (or two) that the Flames probably won't qualify him.

As for Arnold - either his injuries came at the most inopportune times (I think at least one did - he was on a roll last season and then got injured right before the Flames recalled someone), or the Flames are showing more patience with him, or the Flames have come to the conclusion that Arnold is not likely to become an NHL'er. Will be interesting to see where that goes.

I wonder who will be the next call-up. Elson is a guy they should 'reward' with a game for his complete effort. Arnold (as already covered)? Van Brabant?

I wouldn't mind seeing Sieloff - I completely wrote him off last year, but he looked great in camp and pre-season. Doubt they would recall Kylington. Don't think Morrisson either (though his points relative to the other defencemen aren't bad, but he has been inconsistent at best).

I have no idea who is the most likely to be recalled for the last game if you exclude players that have already had a call-up.

If we use a regular recall on a forward then we'd have to send one of the emergency recalled forwards back I believe. That doesn't really accomplish anything. Therefore it may be more likely we recall a defenceman and rest a vet defenceman against MIN.

Ordinarily I'd say its too soon but for one game, I want to see Kylington.

Looks like Shore will slot in on Backlund's line, so he should get some chance to show what he's got.

His production with the Panthers was not exactly terrible and there were teams interested in him last season so I assume he rubbed off on some pro scouts.

It's not like he's been beating down the door or anything. He's been mediocre to slightly above average in the AHL. 35 points in 56 games is just ok for the AHL, and he also sports a -13 which is 3rd worst on the team. This has been a career worst season for him, and it's not like he's had a lot of competition for playing time on the farm with everyone having a relatively poor year.

Shore has probably hit his peak as a player, which is unfortunate, but it happens. I think these couple of games are just to make sure they really gave him another shot to see if he can look like he belongs in the NHL. My guess is he's relatively invisible again, but I could end up being surprised by him.

I suspect this will be Shore's last game for the Calgary Flames. Or second last. Almost nothing he can do at this point to overcome the disappointing season he has had and I don't suspect he gets an NHL contract next year.

If the Flames viewed things this way, wouldn't they have called up someone who had a future with the organization to evaluate?

Shore's been given the opportunity to succeed but he hasn't answered the call. I don't buy the sob story that he's only been given a small number of games.

I don't think this is his last chance either to sway Calgary leadership, I think it's a gesture to give him his last game as a Flame.

Too bad, was hoping he'd work out but he still may on another team.
