But it does support his drive to increase infrastructure spending. So there's that.

Harper lived in that residence for many years after the report stating the renovations required. He managed to get by without demanding a $10MM renovation.

Trudeau likes to spend money. Especially money that isn't his.
I would argue Harper simply ignored a report from his own government that told him to renovate.

Deferring maintenance is not necessary a good thing and can cost you more.

Budget officer Jean-Denis Frechette's report also says the Liberal decision to introduce a risk adjustment that lowered the projected budgetary balance by $6 billion a year was excessive and eroded the independence of using private-sector forecasts.

The budget office report also estimates the positive economic impact of those measures will be more modest than the Liberals predict.

The analysis projects the budget will create or maintain 86,000 jobs over the next two years, rather than the 143,000 projected by the government.

If I was PM I'd defer a $10MM renovation to my home on the taxpayer's dime too.

Terrible optics.

One of my accounting profs taught me that. The best kind of money is 'other people's.'

"Maintain" scares me as in we needed billion of dollars of more debt so people don't get fired?

Or is like a construction job coming to an end, but due to Fed money, the company gets another job and therefore people stay employed?

As mentioned, the most over the top taxpayer defending organization actually says the renovation is 100% acceptable, and they're fine with it. If they don't think the optics suck, I'm guessing almost no one does.

I disagree and if I am right about the tax payers federation, I would argue that most Canadians disagree too. It isn't his home, and that is very important. He doesn't get to sell it for 10mill more.

The one thing that I think is going to find funny is that the Liberals were the biggest cheerleader for the PBO when they were in opposition, go get that mean Harper they'd say.

Well now they're going to get their $$$es ripped by the PBO.

I think that this budget makes little sense considering that a lot of the spending either wasn't needed due to the economy still growing, and a lot of spending in it just seems like pork barreling.

On top of it, it seems that Justin hasn't seen a big check opportunity that he doesn't like. His international spending post election just comes across as stupid and self indulgent.

He's the cool uncle who likes to throw money around because it makes him feel like the fonze.

The repairs were probably going to happen between PMs no matter who was coming in. I think Harper just didn't want to put himself and his family through the inconvenience of two unnecessary moves.

$10m still seems like a crazy amount for gutting a luxury home and adding security, even considering it's a Canadian heritage property, a few million i could believe. I read it's annual energy cost is $60k, which is comparable to a school, I can't even start to wrap my head around that.

Ya, that's happening already.

Parliamentary Budget Officer Jean-Denis Fréchette is giving poor marks to the Trudeau government’s first budget, warning it is less transparent and overestimates the number of jobs that will be created. In a report released Wednesday, the PBO takes issue with several key points related to how the budget numbers are presented.
“The government has made changes to the presentation of its fiscal plan that have made it more difficult for parliamentarians to scrutinize public finances,” the report states.
The removal of key financial data from this year’s budget has limited the parliamentary watchdog’s ability to report to MPs, according to the report.

How the hell do you end up less transparent than Harper was?

I do find it funny that people go so wrapped up in Trudeau that they forgot that they were voting for the Liberal Party. Like these aren't the same people who've been in power for more than half the time Canada has been a country.

Did people really expect anything different?

By having better hair and taking nicer selfies.

Frankly whether the Liberals ran Trudeau or Pamela Anderson as their party leader they were going to win this election.

Frankly I can't tell the difference between the two of them brain power wise.
