that's only sexy if you can use a time machine and bring back Iginla from 2004 to the present day.
If possible, please bring back kipper and regher also, would complete what's missing from the current roster.

If somehow the Flames were first in the Pacific next year I would. Trade Agostino and Klimchuk for him at the deadline

Funny enough, if you combine the current core with the then-core of 2004, the two would complete each other perfectly:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Iginla
Gio - Brodie
Regehr - Hamilton
Kiprusoff
Time is truly against us..

I would prefer we move Wideman to free up money. And then use that money via trade or UFA to find a winger who can contribute for several years, preferably someone much younger than Iginla.
This organization is not in the phase of its lifecycle where we should be adding forwards close to retirement

I swear... Iginla could be retired for 20 years and doing car commercials in his free time; people on this forum will still be wondering if the Flames should bring him back for a cup run.

Short term? Why not?
He's literally better than every forward on this team not named Gaudreau or Monahan. I don't see why you would say no to having him back for a year or two. Especially if no one can fill our holes on the wing next year, which is likely now that it's unlikely we're drafting top 3.

Im sort of on the fence on this. A year ago I would have said no way but I think the team has established itself enough where Iggy wouldn't be the distraction he once was. At the same time does he really help the team that much? I feel like the feel good story is more enticing than what he actually brings. I suppose people around the team would know best if he would actually be a benefit or not. I'd probably lean more towards no if I had to make a choice though.

If he fits, then sure. But he doesn't fit on the top line anymore, and perhaps not even top six. Third line RW? The bigger issue is that we aren't likely to be a real Cup contender next year, though hopefully in the playoffs.

He's the Flames equivalent of the Oilers 80s obsession. Some people just can't seem to move forward with life.

I think he would make a good playoff rental for added depth and veteran presence if we were in contention for winning the division but nothing more.
Not even a 1-year contract. We experimented with Tony Amonte, Todd Bertuzzi and Owen Nolan in the past. No thanks.

There's really no forward leadership on this team, other than Stajan, who's a questionable leader IMO because of what he brings. I look at what Guerin brought Pittsburgh and wonder if Iginla could do the same for the Flames young group.
For this to happen, I would want the following:
1) Flames draft Matthews or Laine
2) Smid is on LTIR
3) Wideman is traded
4) Stajan is sent to the farm
5) Raymond is sent to the farm
6) Bollig is perma-scratched
7) Flames acquire a number one goalie
8) Acquiring Iginla cost no more than a 2nd
Gaudreau - Monahan - Matthews/Laine
Shinkaruk - Bennett - Colborne
Frolik - Backlund - Iginla
Bouma - Jooris - Ferland
Ideally it would involve trading Wideman for Iginla

Iggy's contract isn't ideal for the team's current situation but he would be the most dangerous option on the RW which speaks to how badly Treliving needs to address the hole.

Yes, but would play a limited roll on the team, meaning he wouldn't dress every night.

Iggy will always have a special place in my heart. Loved what he did for this team, and more importantly what he did for this city. Always involved with any number of charities, community events and was a genuine Good People.
That being said the next time Iggy dons a Flaming C it should be on his one day retirement contract. The team has moved on to new talent, and a fresh vision for the future and we as fans really should do the same.
