it depends on who the Flames get at the draft and in free agency. It depends if they're favorites or just making it in. It depends what the avs would want back.
In short, it depends.

Pass. He's only getting older and slower. If we could get him for free then maybe. If we are trading assets for him at the deadline? Yikes.

No thanks, that day has passed.
When he decides to retire, you offer him a way day contract to retire as a Flame.

Let's see how Treliving addresses our needs at wing in the off season.
I'm not going to completely shun the idea based on what our current RW situation looks like

I wouldn't even wait till the offseason. I'd trade iggy for wideman in the offseason straight up, and then use the money to sign a legit top 4 defenseman
It has to happen in the offseason for it to make sense

True. It is a bit early still to say whether the moves the Flames make will set them up for success in 1-2 years vs 3-4 years. A legitimate starter and drafting top 3 will make us a more immediate threat, whereas running with a not yet proven goalie, and drafting 4-6 would put things a little further off. But hypothetically, I guess.

For some odd reason I don't think Iggy would come back.
I personally don't think I'd like to see Iggy return. But if it happened I wouldn't cry about it either. If the Flames had a real good chance it would be a better than Ray Bourque moment which is a nice story if they won the cup with Iggy. But thats all fluff and storylines.

Even putting all the baggage aside, no I wouldn't.
He'll be 39 to start the new season and despite scoring 20 this year his play has dropped off. On the surface it might seem like it's a good fit, 20 goal scoring right winger but that play will continue to drop rapidly. Just isn't worth it to insert that into your line up and as you can see already in this thread, people can't separate the previous version of him from the now.
Hopefully we snag that winger we need in the draft year. It won't be an immediate help but a guy like Laine, Puljuu###i, Dubois, Tkachuk probably aren't that far off from making an impact. Younger guys already on the roster should be given chances as well, many interesting wingers who could make the jump.

Unclear why this doesn't work. They both have 1 year to UFA. They make the same money. Colorado has poor depth on defense; calgary has poor depth on forward. Tangs is longer in colorado.

I believe in the Jays.

Depends.
I'd take Iggy back to be something for us like Recchi was for Boston... but I'm not giving up something of significant value for him.

On a related note where age of the player is concerned, I would totally sign Jagr to a one-year deal.
GullFoss: Overall value of the player is what is out of balance, not so much the contract. I have nothing against Wideman, but I think you'd have a lot more takers for Iginla at his salary than for Wideman at his. Wideman at $4 - 4.5 million probably gets a look.

If he came for cheap then I don't see why not. Its not like the Flames couldn't use added depth at forward.
I think Colorado is just as likely to be in the playoff picture as the Flames next year so I don't see them being sellers.

If the power play isn't humming, yeah I think you do that for the right price. He will be highly sought after though, so it might be too expensive.
He's been money on the Avs power play all season. That shot is still there.
