I don't like this kid.
It's not like the Flames are the place to go if a goaltender is looking for their stats to be elite. This team doesn't exactly employ a stout defensive system and when's the last time the organization developed a starting goaltender from their farm team? I can see a few reasons why Calgary would not be a preferred destination for a young goaltender.

This year it seemed more like the goalies all just didn't care and dragged the team down. Last year it looked like the team turned average goalies into good ones. Philly just always seems to get a good goalie and then that goalie doesn't play well there, it's been like that for years.

Have they really in the last decade or longer got a good goalie in their prime? IMO they have got by on a lot of tier 2 goaltenders.

They had Bobrovsky before they gave up on him and he became a star.

True but he's really only had two very good seasons and he's not a guy I consider an elite goaltender.

Bryz looked good until he went there. Detective Bobrovsky looked better after leaving there, Mason has looked average since he's been there. They don't have the best track record with goalies. At least last year the Flames made average goalies look better.

If he was from Yale, he was probably a member of "skull and bones" so would feel comfortable going to a team noted for its goalie graveyard!

I don't think so. The Flamed very recently earned an "A" grade from In Goal Magazine in their future watch ranking of goaltender depth. They were one of six teams to receive either A or A+ in their ranking, and were placed third in the Western Conference. Philadelphia received a "B," and appear down in ninth in the Eastern Conference.

If the Flyers really believe in this kid, I'd happily take Mason off their hands cheaply.
