I'm not even greedy. 2nd or 3rd overall will do.
Good to see Shinkaruk doing well. Deal looks good so far for the Flames, and if Shinkaruk continues to develop well, it'll be nothing but a home-run. In terms of trades, BT really was on fire this year.

I ran it a few times. The most interesting result had the Bruins and Avs picking 1-2 with us 3rd and that pushed all of TOR, VAN, WPG and EDM out of the top 3!
One can dream, one can dream.

I love this team. The Flames are a bottom 5 team in the league and are having a pretty terribad year in just about every aspect of the game yet they can still take a team like the kings, a team that looks like one of the favorites out of the west, to OT.
In all honesty, a loss works out better for the Flames in the long run so the outcome isn't that bad either. There are just a lot of things to like about this team though, Backlund playing great and has potential to be one of the best #3 centers in the league if things work out. Shinkaruk looking good in his limited showings and does well in front of his family and home town, hopefully the kid has a bright future with this team. Colborne putting up points and either solidifying his spot on the team or boosting his trade value. Gio being Gio and doing what he does... There are just a lot of good things about this team moving forward.
I'm not saying that this team is amazing because they're not but they have some really good players to build around and the future looks bright...even after a loss.

Can't find our goalie thread but Enroth did not look like a potential starter to me. I know he was a backup with some of the better stats but the eye test wasn't good last night. I would rather have Ortio as the backup and somebody else as the starter than bring in Enroth at all.

Not a great game by either goaltender last night and it's hard to get overly excited about Enroth given he looks small in the net at times but it was just one game. Reimer is a guy I would be okay with the Flames signing looked pretty bad in the game he started in the dome earlier in the season so one game isn't necessarily a good indicator of how good a goaltender is or Kings fans would be saying based on last nights game that Ramo is barely NHL caliber.

so my wife scored some lower bowl tickets to last nights game and she takes my son (a huge kings fans who was rockin' a throwback gold and purple doughty jersey last night) and my son wound up sitting beside one of the game's premier shutdown defenceman - robyn Regher.
According to my wife, Reg was very friendly and wound up talking to my son a whole lot during the game. Between periods my wife was asking reg about all of the off ice work he did during the summer to prepare - hopefully my son will get a little motivated from hearing it straight from Reg.

I thought Shinkaruk had a solid game. He could use a few more pounds of muscle, but he's young and will grow. He's got a nose for the net and looks like he could potentially develop into a decent top 6 player for us.

When Engelland starts sniping you usually are going to win games. Highlight of the game for me was definitely Shinkaruk though. Glad to see him producing. Hopefully he can carry this confidence into the off season and into next year.

Bet the Flames get him ready and bulk him up over the summer.

I think thats probably how fans of the Jets/Jackets/Flames/Leafs/Coyotes/Sabres are all thinking right now.

It's crazy how things change.
Thought for sure we were drafting Shinkaruk, but we took Poirier.
Then over the next few seasons it looked like a genius move. Poirier dominated at the junior level and put up 46 points in his first 57 AHL games. Meanwhile Shinkaruk struggled with injuries over his remaining junior career and struggled as a rookie pro.
Yet here we are a year later, BT has traded for Shinkaruk and he not only has put up better AHL numbers this season than Poirier, but has now managed to slip past him while managing to remain in the NHL while EP was sent back down.
Hopefully they both make it eventually, but as of right now Shink looks like the better bet. We'll see.

Different type of players. I feel Poirier is still more of a sure bet to be an NHLer because with his size, speed and overall game he should be a 3rd liner at worst.
As an undersized, skilled scorer, Shinkaruk has to be a top two line player in order to play in the NHL. If his scoring doesn't translate then he's not an NHLer.
Nice to have both. I'm still confident that Poirier has the tools to be an NHLer within a year or two. Shinkaruk is looking good so far, more feisty, quicker and more elusive than I was expecting. His size isn't ideal but we should be okay if we can add some size this draft or through UFA/trade.

Thought Shinkaruk looked slow last night too. Couple plays were it looked like he was skating through mud.

Agree with that - and I picked Enroth as a dark horse too...

No doubt they will give him a meal plan and training schedule, but ultimately the onus is on the player. Hopefully Shinkaruk has good a work ethic.

I don't want to like Shinkaruk (that face) but he is working hard out there and is battling in the tough areas. He's taken some hard hits but he pops right back up, no whining, looking around, just focused on the play. Takes some abuse in front of the net but fought for his ice and was in the right place at the right time. He doesn't look out of place at least. I would say he has a legit shot at camp to stick on this team.
Overall a decent game, hard to complain too much about anything. The team needs to compete, it's not about wins and losses really but how they are playing. They played hard last night and competed against a superior team but lost. That's all you can really asks for at this time of year.
After hearing the stat last night that the Flames have the most goals of any team from sub 22 year players things are looking good. There's talent on this team and it is young. A few tweaks to the system and a goalie and the Flames' future is looking bright.

loved the result! an entertaining hockey game with the young guys having good games and Johnny getting back to PPG. Just wish the OT went a little longer. O'well.
