Slippy rarely sees the field, if Scholes:
a) was played where he should've been
b) hadn't retired
Well in fairness, during his tenure England were pretty mediocre as a whole.
That said, I dont see Rooney really making this team on merit, hes easily the 3rd striker at best and he is notoriously useless at major tournaments.

Ridiculous that a referee can play nearly a minute over the allotted 3 minutes of OT for zero stoppages. Translates as 15 minutes extra time a half. Game should be blown over when the allotted time expires. Simple as that.

The times on the boards are the minimum amounts of stoppage time and I think accounting for stoppage time in stoppage time is fair. However, I don't think the final corner should have been accommodated. The ref made it worse by letting Spurs take the kick and then blowing the final whistle when Liverpool may have had a chance to counter. It has to go both ways.

Well that was a disappointing result for Spurs, but at the same time not exactly unforeseen. Anfield hasn't been kind to them for decades, and a draw on the road isn't disaster. Its a tough part of the schedule with Liverpool this week and then Manchester United next.
Let's face it though, what Leicester has pulled off is nothing short of incredible. Some will look at the outcome and consider this a(nother) failure for Spurs, but I don't think that's fair. You know who failed this year? The two Manchesters, Chelsea, Arsenal and even Liverpool could be considered as falling short. Think of it this way; if you swapped Chelsea and LCFC you might have those two teams where more people could've guessed before the beginning of the season and frankly everyone would be talking about an amazing season for Tottenham. Instead the focus is (rightly) on Leicester and people view this as a blown opportunity for Spurs because they might've won. The reality is that all of these other clubs failed to take advantage of the others weakness as well, and to a greater extent.
I view this season as a great outcome for Tottenham. The youngest team in the Premiership who statistically lead in almost every category who are basically the only challenger for the title. I think that is a major success.
The only way this season will be a failure for Spurs now is if Arsenal finish ahead of them. Leicester deserve full credit for simply doing what they need to do, 5 wins in their last 6 and all 1-0. Not necessarily pretty wins, but wins are wins at the crucial point of the season, and they've given themselves room for error even coming in.

You are exactly right when you say that the big four failed miserably this year. And it for that very reason that if Spurs don't win the title you can count me in as part of the some that will consider it a failure.
It is going to be a very long time before ALL of the big four crap the bed in the same season leaving it open for one of the lesser teams (of which Liverpool and Spurs are at the top of the next tier) to claim a title. Instead it appears to be Leicester that has seized the opportunity.
So, yes, you can spin it and say it's great that they qualified for the CL, and yes it's great that they might win the North London trophy for the first time in 20 years (and I wouldn't bet on that just yet) but when all the dust settles rational Spurs fans will look back at this season as a huge missed opportunity and a failure to put their name on the trophy when the main contenders were having a collective mare.
I think you want to count it as a failed because you're a fan of another club though, not because it actually is one. Just as no one had Leicester winning, no one had Spurs anywhere near where they are either.
It will be interesting to see how things go next year. I know we still have to finish here and see how the summer goes of course. But to suggest the big four just roll back might be a little presumptuous. All the clubs have a lot of money after this year and so signings are likely more balanced, and frankly two of the big four won't be offering CL for at least a year. Does that impact signings? I don't know, but it's a very interesting time for the league.
As for Spurs, I am confident that they can continue to perform heading into next season. I think they can keep their core and manager, and that goes a long way to build some continuity. I look at the Manchester clubs in particular and think that they could have some tougher times ahead though, particularly for United.
