Cap is going to be tight this summer for the Flames. Time to move on from his 4 goals and 11 points. Not like he brings anything else to the table
But if we do keep him your right I won't lose sleep over it but just don't see the point. He would clear waivers on a 1 way 1 mil contract. Waste of space

I hope the Flames are able to find a better option over the summer than Jooris, either within the organization or through trade. Guy is the definition of a plug. Also would like to cut ties with Agostino, van Brabant, Elson, and Poulin.

Why Agostino ? I thought he played well in his call up. He is a guy that could replace Jooris IMO.

If he clears waivers, then he's not taking up any roster space. And then he's not even using up a couple hundred K in cap space, it would be more like $50K. Even less to worry about, when none of it is worth worrying about in the first place.

He has, he's been one of the Heats best penalty killers and defensive forwards, but no one pays attention to anything but points.

It's probably best to look at the numbers required for each player too...
Qualifying Offer Requirements...
Quote:
(A) if the Player's prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary is less than or equal to $660,000 for that League Year, 110% of the prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary.
(B) if the Player's prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary is greater than $660,000, but less than $1,000,000 for that League Year, 105% of his prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary, but in no event to exceed $1,000,000.
(C) if the Player's prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary is equal to or greater than $1,000,000 for that League year, 100% of the prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary.
(D) if a Player is eligible to receive a Two-Way Qualifying Offer, the Paragraph 1 Minor League Salary component shall not be less than the higher of the Player's prior year's Paragraph 1 Minor League Salary, if any, or the minimum Minor League salary.
|
One Way vs Two Way requirements...
Quote:
A Club's Qualifying Offer must be a One-Way Qualifying Offer if the applicable Player has: (A) actually played (excluding games missed for injury, illness or disability) 180 or more NHL Games in the previous three (3) NHL Seasons, (B) played at least sixty (60) NHL Games in the previous NHL Season, and (C) not cleared Waivers in the period between the 12th day prior to the commencement of the previous Regular Season and the end of a Club's previous Playing Season. For purposes hereof only, a goaltender is deemed to have played an NHL Game when he was dressed and on the bench as a backup. In all other cases, a Qualifying Offer may be a Two-Way Qualifying Offer.

I voted to let Jooris, Shore, Hamilton Poulin and Ortio walk. I do not want any of the Flames goaltenders back except Gillies, I do not think Ortio has the mental ability to be a back-up and he is nowhere near good enough to be a starter.

Why don't people want Poulin back? He's the closest thing we have to an NHL-ready 3rd stringer, a guy you can call up and not be terrified of playing if there's an injury, but also a guy who won't miss development sitting on the bench. He's had a better year than Ortio has in the AHL too.

I like Poulin and would welcome him back, but I do not think he will be happy playing second fiddle to a healthy Gillies, I would allow him to look elsewhere as a gesture to him and welcome him back if he is unable to find a backup spot in the NHL or a starting job in the AHL.

The fact that the Flames are reportedly going hard after Lyon speaks of a team that's looking to upgrade their prospect base at the position. Poulin did a fine job for the team but I don't think he's a guy that's in the future plans.

FYI, below is sort of what the Heat depth chart will look like next season, depending of course on who makes the NHL (Wotherspoon, Hathaway, Shinkaruk??) who gets demoted (Raymond??). A lot of bodies already to work with, which is why it wouldn't shock me to see a guy like Shore or Agostino moved for a conditional pick ala Max Reinhart last year.
Shinkaruk ----------- Hamilton (RFA) ------- Poirier
Agostino (RFA) ------ Jankowski ------------ Shore (RFA)
Klimchuk ------------ Arnold (RFA) ---------- Hathaway
Mangiapane --------- Elson (RFA) ----------- Smith
Pollock ---------------------------------------- Carroll
Van Brabant (RFA)
Wotherspoon (RFA)
Kulak ------ Kylington
Culkin ----- Anderssen
Sieloff ----- Morrison
Kanzig
Gillies
Poulin (RFA)

Yeah, I'm not sure how that happened. I've always made my polls public but for some reason this one isn't. I must have accidentally clicked the wrong button when setting it up.
I'd like to see who the culprits are too.

I would've answered this poll honestly but saw how riled up a couple posters got and I couldn't help it.

He along with Elson and Arnold don't put up points and aren't considered "sexy" so people don't want them back.
Personally, I think they should all be signed because they are good in their role. They aren't going to replace Gaudreau or Monahan in an injury, but they will be needed when guys like Bouma, Ferland, Hathway get inevitably injured.
I personally really like Elson, good speed, good forechecker, fearless, stands up for his teammates. Not the biggest guy, but all heart. I'd rather see him on the 4th line then Stajan and Bollig.

From what I've heard he can play all three forward positions in junior. I just put him there because he's left handed and will be a rookie.
