Hating teams is funner than have meh feelings towards them.

So I'm all for this.

I doubt this. Still, the Hurricanes are bleeding money and it makes sense.

Would be fantastic for another Canadian team to come back. Especially in QC, beautiful old city. With a metro population of around 800,000 the arena is about the right size to me too.

In this economy? That'd be surprising.

If they do, they'd be the only team that's won a cup to relocate.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

This team just won a cup 10 years ago and already did it sink to the bottom in attendance. Do fans think they'll win a cup every year?

Good timing of this rumor to hit the site, right before fools day.

Pretty much the answer for the nhl in regards to giving Quebec their team and getting 2 expansion teams in the west (Las vegas, portland/seattle).

I hope it happens

Outside of a conference final run in 2009, Carolina hasn't been close to the playoffs. Only so many nights you can watch Eric staal and cam ward before people go enough is enough

I think I read that this rumor got shut down a few days ago. Heard them denying it before I had heard it in the first place

Was there a denial from the Thrashers before they were moved?

Lots of denials, but, everything happened really fast. There was the disappointment from the Coyotes getting salvation, and then just weeks later all the sudden the Atlanta thing popped up.

I don't remember if there was anything before this, but the final days in Atlanta had the team's ownership openly admit they were looking for new investors for the team (January 2011?). I believe the ownership came straight out and admitted they were selling and the move was clear after sale to True North.

Edit - As per Wikipedia:

Quote:
On May 16, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that talks for a sale to True North Sports & Entertainment were underway.[14] According to The Globe and Mail, a deal was finalized on May 20, 2011, to relocate the team to Winnipeg.[15] The League later denied the report, but acknowledged that advanced negotiations between the two teams were underway and that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman supported the move.[16] Draft schedules were prepared that accommodated for the team's move to Winnipeg,[17] as True North sought to move the American Hockey League (AHL) team that played in Manitoba, eventually moving that team to St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, in Atlantic Canada.[18]

On May 31, 2011, True North Sports & Entertainment and the NHL held a press conference in Winnipeg to announce the completion of a deal to purchase the Thrashers. True North intended to relocate the team to the MTS Centre in Winnipeg and on June 21, 2011, both the sale and relocation of the team were formally approved by the NHL's Board of Governors. The Atlanta Spirit Group, however, retained the rights and logos for the Thrashers.[19] The Thrashers' website was shut down soon after.

Yeah, I don't think the majority of Flames fans still grasp how dire that situation was at the time...both the short term and long term implications of another Oilers cup.

Instead, in the end, justice was served and being so close pushed Lowe even further into his egotistical control of the team. Having to re-sign MacT after not renewing him before the regular season ended, then giving huge deal to Horcoff and Pisani, while having to deal with the pathetic way he hoodwinked Pronger, which has set the PA against him ever since.

In addition to the clutch win for Carolina in that game 7, don't forget eliminating the Leafs in 2002...between that and the '93 Kings, if not for them, we'd still be seeing highlights of the Leafs in the SCF back then, now.
