There are. However, if a project isn't really moving forward it can go silent for a long time. Here's a new map that The City just created for citizens to stay on top of development projects in their communities. I'm a big fan.

At the moment, no. Should federal law change around the criminal nature of marijuana, that may open up need for more local regulation (eg: sale, public use, etc).

There are certainly development policies, but the incentive is really based on the market demand.

Why is the city of Chestermere being charged commercial rates for garbage pick up?

^ they probably don't pay into the tax base which partially subsidizes garbage pickup....

They never used to. This seems like a newer thing according to CUI.

As I understand it from the rural newspapers, Calgary implemented new rates and protocols recently for the neighbouring communities.

The new rate structure include greater emphasis on recycling and penalizes municipalities when recyclable items go to the landfill. Irricana and Chestermere residents have been rather vocal about the changes. I'm sure other municipalities are encountering similar woes as they bring their first organizaed recycling efforts onstream.

I'm curious to know where the station at 16th Ave and Centre St N will go. On each possibility it shows the train going underground through that stretch but there is no indication of where the platform will be. I thought it would be where the Brick (SE corner) used to be but now there is a sign showing that a new condo development is going up on that land.

Shouldn't Calgary profit from neighbouring communities using our faciltiies?

i.e. selling garbage space on Simcity to a nearby town? Or that isn't how it works in the real world?

They're uniformly closed because of the public expectation for safety in a public park. Basically, if someone complains that you're there making noise past a certain time, there's a way to kick you out. Campers can also be removed. Or... if you dramatically hurt yourself in the public space in the middle of the night, there isn't public liability.

However, I don't believe that there are patrols kicking anyone out of said public parks. I have a number of friends who have visited these parks after hours. They knew they were there after hours and prepared to be kicked out... but that hasn't happened yet.

I notice that a lot of the new LED streetlights are on 24/7. Like an excessive amount. I guess I can 311 them one by one but just wondering if there's been any chatter about how the retrofit is coming along?

Something is up, 1 block down from me a few were out for several weeks others were on all the time. A few weeks ago at the intersection of Charleswood and Northmount 3 were flashing continuously, seizure inducing style. But I really like them much better than the old mercury vapour lights.

There haven't been mercury vapour streetlights in Calgary for about 30 years.

High Pressure Sodium.

Mercury Vapour are a blue-white light.

Sounds like they're having a lot of fun with the retrofit down there. Not sure why it's so hard. Went pretty flawlessly up here. But then, I was the project manager, so that helped.

I've seen that in a few different places around town, it's quite distracting. Overall I'm getting used to the LEDs but still find them different. The light is brighter but the coverage doesn't seem to be as large for each light which leaves dark(er) spots between each pole.

Speaking on street lights, for some reason in the NW they have been running a lot of wire from one streetlight to another all over the place. It usually sags across the road and looks terrible. Not sure what the purpose is, although presumably there is one.

I think they do that when the underground connection gets cut. So they just "jumper" off the nearest light.

I've noticed this a lot too. Which is odd since the light worked fine before the overhead cable was installed.
