What are people's opinions on Calisthenics? I've been so infatuated with it lately that I've added some body weight exercises to my routine. I'm gonna one day succeed in doing the muscle up, Human Flag and the Chinese Push up.

Out of the 3, I think I'm closer in succeeding in the Chinese push up.

Is this different from plyometrics? I always heard the word calisthenics from my mom when I was young and I assume its the old-school version.

Another big gym fad. There will be a lot less people doing it in a year. It puts some vulnerability onto the wrists, neck, and shoulders but you're always going to have that.

Just do what you enjoy.

All you have to do is spend 30 seconds on the steroid forum he frequented to know he and everyone else was doing something wrong.

Push/Pull/Legs Vs. Upper/Lower? What's better. I'm currently doing Upper/Lower 3 days a week and might switch to 4 days with Upper/Lower Power and Upper/Lower Hypertrophy. Been doing Upper/Lower for about a year and a half now and slowly seeing some results.

Just wondering if in fact I do decide to switch to Push/Pull/Leg Routine would it shock my body thinking wtf is he doing changing routines. I am kind of getting bored of doing Hypertrophy but if it works why change, right?!

I started doing bodyweight exercises in the gym. I prefer it over weighted exercises but then again, it maybe because I just want a new challenge and I'm bored with my regular routine. Adding weighted squats and deadlifts with calisthenics are a must imo if you want a well rounded strong body.

Changed from heavy lifting to yoga, bodyweight exercises and jogging. Feel way better these days, I'll throw in a deadlift or squat once in a while but the big weights cause too much bulk and in turn lack of energy.

6 hours of sleep and a crappy day is much easier now.

Can we start a new thread and lock this one? I get pissed off when I see that weasel PIMking's name on a thread that keeps getting bumped. I always say the thread title in what I assume is that weasel's voice and it pisses me off even more.

They do? You do realize that is a complete myth, right? Bulking is about eating.

You don't have to squat 2x your body weight or deadlift 3x. Just go lift. They are good, fundamentally important movements that can be a benefit for a very long time.

Every time I go to the gym I squat. It is exceptionally enjoyable and I find that all my strength increases when I include squats.

Also, no I don't get "bulk".

I'm tired of killing myself on squats (ass to grass) and then watch some guy throw an extra 50 lbs on the bar and start half repping their squats. I don't know why it bothers me, but it does.

Frustrates me to no end. Especially the ones who have invisible lats and have to give you a crooked mouth Sly Stallone stare down after each set. OH YOU THINK GOING DOWN TO THE BOTTOM AND DOING IT PROPER IS BUILDING STRENGTH!?!?

ILS affects hundreds of thousands and is a serious issue.

I laugh at those guys... they are the same ones who hoist up the 75 lb. dumbs and can barely move them 15 degrees from parallel.

How many here are 40 and over and lifting weights? I'm on the wrong side of 30 and after the single best year of my lifting that saw me beat all my PRs in everything, I'm starting to feel tendinitis in my left arm, sharp elbow pain on the right, and overall weakness in almost every exercise except deadlifts.

Granted this all started in the last month, when I began cutting calories and focusing on cardio more, but today, my squat was 25 lbs less than it was a month ago! Does cutting effect strength that much?

I am beginning to rethink weightlifting. I've never had the goal of being musclebound or anything but what keeps me motivated is besting the previous week's lifts. I've gotten noticeably more muscular in the last year but I think this is it for me. I don't believe I will hit anymore PRs, and that's okay, but I do have a need to constantly improve my fitness going forward to motivate me.
