Default Moving Company

Hi everyone,

Just had a quick question. Have any of you used a moving company before to move locally? I am just wondering what kind of costs I am looking at for using one.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've used moving companies on two occasions, and will always use them whenever I move now! saves so much time and energy.

But it really comes down to how much you have to move, when I finished up being a student and was renting a room in a house with nothing but a bed/dresser/desk and a bunch of boxes, I was able to get all that moved into an apartment for around $200-250

But just recently, moved out of an apartment, into a house. 1 bedroom, now with a lot more bigger items collected over the years, things like couches, TV stands, book shelves, coffee/kitchen tables, a lot more boxes. That move cost around $600-700.

Best thing you can do to make it cheaper, is make sure everything is packed and put in an easy spot for the movers to access when they get there. It'll save them tons of time of loading up the truck, which saves you on billed time.

Yeah, that's all I've seen anyway.

Usually 1 hour is billed from the start, plus however long it takes them to move your stuff.

Here's how it will work.

If you call a place to get you to move (I used AMJ), they will send someone out who will do a walkthrough of your place and see how much stuff you have. They will ask you some questions such as if you want extra insurance, if you want them to wrap your TV, if you want wardrobe boxes for your hanging clothes, if you need any other moving materials.

Usually they give you some boxes for free, they loaned me a couple wardrobe boxes for free, you may have to pay extra to have TV's wrapped. If I remember correctly they plastic wrapped my wooden furniture to avoid scratches and I don't think it was an extra cost.

They will also take any furniture apart that needs to be, and they will put it back together.

Oh and depending on how much stuff you have they will send X amount of people and will charge by the hour. We moved out of a 1br apartment and they sent 3 people rather than 2 as 1 needed to stay with the truck.

I've used Premiere 5 times now I think and have been pleased. They will give you an estimate based on whether a 2-man or 3-man crew is required, and it's by the hour. Their final bill has been pretty much right on, and no damage to houses or items.

I just moved and had some AWESOME guys move all the crap I didn't want to. Super nice guys, I would recommend to anyone looking to move- I think 2 guys plus truck was $140 per hour.

Your recommendation might go farther if you actually post the name of the company?

I used Highland movers 2 years ago for a two bedroom. 2 guys who when out of my view went slowly. Ended up at 6 hours for a short distance move, I think about $700. I wont be using them again.

I have Premiere booked for next week, $150/hr for 3 guys. Hopefully it will go quicker.

You might be right- They were called Impact Zone 403-243-8222. Super friendly and efficient.
