I generally dislike the other Canadian teams more than other teams, so I'm ok with this given the Flames aren't making it.
Also, I want Calgary to be the Canadian team to break the drought, and I'm willing to wait that out regardless of how long it is (but obviously I hope it's not too long, the sooner the better).

Rogers Sportsnet is going to be crying the blues. No Canadian team in the playoffs means lower revenues. Then again they're going to screw over the Blue Jays and their fans, so why should I care.

The question is who makes a return next season?
Calgary and Montreal will be the teams to make the return to the postseaon if I were to guess.
The Flames franchise players will develop into more dominant players, and if we're backstopped by at least a capable goalie then we're a threat.
Montreal because Carey Price.
Ottawa and Winnipeg will be bubble
Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton hangin' out in the ol' basement.

Great. Now the Americans can call the NHL playoffs a true world championship since no teams from any other countries are represented...

Calgary, Toronto may be moving in the right direction and I suppose a healthy Price can carry the Habs but it's not out of the question that Canada gets shut out in 2017 as all the teams have major question marks.

Toronto is never going in the right direction, they are frozen in time in the year 1967. Murray is average but he usually gets teams in the playoffs, see Anaheim. Burke does credit Murray for setting up the 2007 SC champions. Should Canada be shut out again next year, expect a federal inquiry by Trudeau.

Blame Trudeau, his father was in power the last time there were no teams from Canada in the playoffs.

Don't overestimate the bandwagon fans. If the Jays revert back to their norm of mediocrity (always possible) it won't take long for the Blue Jays interest to erode back to what it was before.

Big chance for the Raptors to go on a run to the conference or possibly NBA finals. The best team in their franchise history starting the playoffs with no Canadian NHL teams to compete with. Could get a solid bandwagon going. Here is hoping they don't bomb out in the first round again

I tuned out to this NHL season a few months ago. Guess this means I don't have to pretend to care about what the other Canadian teams are doing, whether I want them to succeed or not.

Except that 'what it was before' was still easily the most TV viewers for any MLB team. Though it can get a bit confusing since I believe Canada and the US track slightly differently. But, for the last year I could quickly get numbers for both, the 2013 Jays averaged 554,000 viewers for a last place team. The Yankees that year led the American heap with a little over 200,000 households.
Though the bandwagon effect last year was crazy. I can't find full numbers, but if you include playoffs, Rogers would have been close to 1 million per game (and well over 3 million for playoffs alone), and the Jays utterly crushed ratings for everything else - hockey, NFL, CFL, everything.

Basically, this. I hate the Oilers, Canucks and Leafs. Dislike the Habs. And the Jets and Senators are irrelevant.
All things being equal, there's no reason why I should feel the need to cheer for Ottawa over Florida or Montreal over Philadelphia.

I would put Calgary on the bubble. Until they solidify their RW and goal tending position. It'll be real tough to crack the top three on the pacific if they don't shore up some help there.
Montreal should make the dance next year. Baring they don't have a injury riddled season.
Winnipeg is in a real unfortunate situation since the top 3 is almost impossible to make in the Central.

Barf. Why the bolts?
If Avs miss, I'm firmly on the Caps bandwagon.
Truth be told, I've been cheering for a Caps Stanley Cup since Ovi came into the league (of course, barring a Flames Finals berth).
