Icon56 Jankowski's Free agent team mate Brandon Tanev signs with Jets

Brandon Tanev , who was tied with Jankowski for the goal scoring lead at Providence this year signed a contract with the Jets.

link to signing article

from TSN Dreger:

Quote:
Such is the case for 24-year-old Providence winger Brandon Tanev, the younger brother of Canucks’ defenceman Chris Tanev.

Sources say Brandon remains a hot commodity, with as many as a dozen NHL teams interested in signing him.

Tanev attended the Boston Bruins’ development camp last summer after scoring the game-winning goal in the Providence Friars national championship victory over Boston University.

am I reading this right? He'll play a handful of games and then his ELC will expire?

I believe it's due to him being 24.

Yes, but I assume they will then retain his rights as an rfa and can negotiate with him exclusively for a longer deal. Or you know, offer him up to Benning for Horvat.

24 years and older = One year ELC
Play a game = Burn a year
July 1st = RFA

sounds like he gets to play in the NHL from Maurice's comments

link

Quote:
He's going to get in later today, we'll get him on the ice the next few days and I would like to see him in some games,” said Jets head coach Paul Maurice. “We're happy he chose us and we're excited. What I've watched on video, he's got real good speed, but more importantly he's on the puck, has high intensity. He's got a real good stick defensively, killed some penalties for them and is a real smart player.”

If he is a RFA then would the Jets have to make a qualify offer more than his 925k?

And to think, all it took was first round selection

I kid, I kid. Jankowski may have same # of goals as Tanev but he's also 21, where as Tanev is 24. Tanev's ceiling I think is a 3rd line grinder with speed. Jank could still be a really effective 2nd line piece with 20-25 goals ahead of him if everything works out.

His qualifying offer will have to be 5% over his NHL base salary for this season (i.e. his salary without the signing bonus).

If he got $925,000 with the signing bonus, his base salary will be $832,500. That means his QO will need to be: $874,125.

According to sportac His NHL base for this year is 925,000 with no signing bonus.

If they have this correct his qualifying offer would be 971,250 ?

It puts it on the player ... he plays in the NHL next year and that makes up for no bonus. This year he likely is with the NHL team for the last 5 games (45K in salary) in lieu of signing Bonus.

Is Jankowski (ATO) playing this year for free? The first $ he gets would be his signing bonus for 2016-17. when would he get that?

Would his agent be able to float him walking around money?

I'm not sure if you get paid or not. There must be some benefit since you can't sign them and retain your NCAA eligibility.

Apparently the CBA for AHL players gives them $71 per diem. Big Cash money.

Signing bonuses are paid out on July 1st of the years they are active in. If the player signs a contract after July 1st he is paid as soon as the contract is registered.

I am sure Jankowski's agent will lend him money.

As for Tanev, I find it extremely hard to believe he had no signing bonuses. He was sought after and had leverage.
