If he was a RW I'd say why not. But I doubt he'd come back, he didn't seem to enjoy his time here

The best #1 centre not in the NHL (who wasn't a centre anyway).

At least Pribyl is big, skilled & a RH shot. Even if he turns out to be a LWer he'll be different than anyone currently on our roster.

They only had 2 years. McKenzie mentioned it yesterday (in the video that sureLoss posted).

It would be great to get a guy like this and have him on the second line if he works out, if not on the third line. Getting a guy like this without giving up assets would really help the team as they could use some extra assets to go after a guy like Nish or Hayes for the top line RW spot and then chase a big fish top 6 in UFA like Lucic.

Johnny - Monahan - Nich/Hayes
Lucic - Bennett - Pribyl/Perron/Okposo

Here's a question: Would Matthews' time in Europe count against his pro seasons for expansion purposes?

IIRC the CBA's definition of pro season includes Euro leagues ONLY IF the player was under NHL contract at the time.

So no.

He was a good player who had his shot in the NHL ruined by bad luck and incompetent management. He had a blood clot right before training camp and was falsely declared a centre by our brilliant GM. He was doomed to fail in a 48 game season.

I don't think he had the drive to succeed in the NHL, this is pure speculation on my part but to me it always felt like he just wanted to go home. I can't say I blame him, new country where he barely spoke the language, he went from being a star to just another player and IIRC his wife didn't move with him.

Certainly given zero chance to succeed.

Although in hindsight, maybe not surprising the same guy who couldn't be asked to look at the letter under 'POS' on the team website didn't know Ryan O'Reilly would have to clear waivers first.

That's not the Cervenka I remember. He was so slow after his first few games. He looked brilliant right away, but man did he crash quickly. I don't think he was in NHL shape.

Can anyone find any sort of scouting reports on this guy? I'd like to know more than just the fact that he's big, a righty, and his age. Can the guy skate?
