You're know you're getting old when Jankowski is ready to finally play for the big club.......

I love Nieuwendyk, but it's pretty tough to compare Johnny to him...

compare who Johnny plays with compared to what we had when joe was playing... the NHL was a scoring festival back in those days...

i know that watching games today, there are times that johnny just dominates the play - as good as Joe was, I never thought that about his game

Never even thought of Jankowski not signing with the Flames so there was no panic here. I think this is good move for both parties. I am glad he will start playing for Stockton first so he can learn the pro system. I am also glad he did not burn a year off his ELC. I am never been a fan of having someone burning a year off their ELC only to play a game or a little more before the end of the season. It is just a waste. I am not sure if Jankowski will be ready for NHL next season yet but I am hoping he will prove me wrong and show the Flames brass he is ready. I see big potential with this guy. He can be a Craig Conroy type of player that can play on both end of the game.

Too bad for John Gilmour though. I hope the Flames will give him a chance to play in Stockton and hopefully he'll surprise everyone. I can understand why they don't want to sign him though since we have a lot of young D-men in our organization. Where are you going to put the likes of Wotherspoon(might get the #7D next season), Kulak is next in line, Kylington will probably play another season in AHL, Sieloff, Kanzig, Andersson(might play another season in junior), Morrison and others. Good to have the depth but you still need too play them.

No surprise he signed. Was hoping for a couple games with the big club, but oh well. Can't believe it's been four years since he was drafted.

No kidding. The meltdown over trading down and not drafting Teravainen seems like yesterday.

Jon Gillies ‏@JGillies36

here's to a lot more of these in the future! congrats big man #GoFlames🔥🔥

Gillies remains in close contact with his old teammates but has a special bond with one in particular.

He and Mark Jankowski have gone through similar journeys to professional hockey and have become close friends through their shared experiences.

Both were drafted by the Flames in 2012.

Both came out of smaller leagues than the traditional CHL and European paths, with Gillies playing his draft-eligible year with Indiana Ice in the United States Hockey League and Jankowski being plucked out of Stanstead College, a prep school in Quebec.

Both started their collegiate careers as true freshmen at Providence in 2012-13.

Both won a national championship -- the first in Friars' program history -- in 2015 when they edged Boston University 4-3 in the Frozen Four Final last April.

And both are now members of the Flames organization with Jankowski inking a entry-level deal with the club on Mar. 30, Gillies singing his deal last spring.

"I’m really happy for him because we were really close at school and we’ve gotten really close through development camps and stuff like that," Gillies stated. "We’ve been going on this ride together, being drafted in the same year and stuff like that. He’s a great person and has a great family, so I couldn’t be happier for them."

In that picture you can really see how huge both Gillies and Jankowski are. Great that he signed and the contract starting next year is a smart move for both the player and the team considering his development and not having to protect him from an expansion draft if it happened in 2018.

I still believe his upside is higher than what most people think it is at this point. Think he'll have a solid year in the AHL... Especially in the later half of the season once he's adjusted to the pro league. He's been playing on a VERY defensive team in terms of structure during his entire college career... Which is good for the development of his two-way game. He has a ton of offensive potential that I believe has not been tapped into yet. His size and ability to control the play down low in the offensive zone can be a real asset. Similar to how we have seen Colbourne be more effective in the last half of the season.

Janko could even surprise and have a really good training camp and push for a spot to start the year. Probably a slim chance of that but you never know... He has really stood out in all of the prospect camps he's been to. Especially the one where he and gaudreau played together. That could just be the gaudreau effect that we've come to know after seeing what Johnny can do.

I think you're definition of "getting old" will change over the years decades. I'm still annoyed that they traded Mullen.

Haha good one. I'm obviously somewhere between the ages of Jacks and Gunkle due to lingering bitterness over the Savard trade.
