I could see Janko developing more grit if he embraces a competitive-leadership style role on this team. Gio isn't exactly an enforcer, but he can be tough as nails when he is trying his best to help the team win.

I just want him to get some games playing at a higher and more phyiscal opponent - whether the NHL or the AHL. I want him to get as much exposure that way as possible to help his mindset for his summer workouts.

Good to see the Jankowski experiment will finally come to fruition one way or another.

This decision by Jankowski shows his maturity and humility. He could have been stubborn about burning a year and getting NHL action right away, but this move shows he's in it for the long haul, and he's taking advice from the team as to what his proper development path should be.

Harkens back to when he was first drafted and they thought it would be better for him to play in the NCAA than the USHL. Looks like that was a very smart choice, and I think he understands the value of playing in development leagues, especially since he was a late bloomer.

I think this kid has a really good head on his shoulders, which makes his on-ice talent even more valuable.

too bad that it looks like Stockton is an extreme long shot to make the playoffs.

Jankowski needs to play some hockey.

The 40 games season with over 30 an hour drive from home is not preparation for the pace and travel of a pro hockey season

148 NCAA games over 4 years is a very different pace than either the AHL or CHL.

Good, screw the 2nd round pick, I want to see what this guy has got. I still have nightmares of this pick, I remember screaming at my TV and calling everybody yelling who the hell is this guy

Hopefully he becomes a good 3rd line center, maybe has ability & tools to convert to RW? That would be great.

Looks like 8 games left for the heat (not counting tonight). Good for him to go down and get a taste. If it is a cup of coffee in the NHL, is this a cup of hot chocolate?

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Neither Otto nor Yelle were guys to initiate a ton of body contact. They got their reputations of being hard to play against because they didn't shy away from body contact, were smart players, and never gave up on a battle. Jankowski is very much a similar player, with the exception he relies more on his smarts to make plays than solely his size.

If you watch his game he's very good in his positioning and uses his body to rub players off the puck rather than engage them head-on with a hit. This allows him to slide off of physical engagements and get into the play much quicker. I've seen defensemen like Leopold and Bouwmeester use this similar style of contact efficiently, but rarely a forward. It's one of the things that makes Jankowski unique and an interesting player to watch. It's also why he's usually several steps ahead of his linemates because he can make a defensive play and transition quicker. He's rarely going to be a guy who lays someone out with a big hit, but he's very effective at getting in the way and separating people from the puck without getting caught out of position.

On his jam, you don't think it shows a ton of jam to even dress for a game when you are so sick, and losing fluids out of both orifices, that you require three to four bags of intravenous liquids after the game? The fact that he still went out there and tried to contribute for his team when he was in that physical condition speaks volumes about his jam and his desire to win.

Can't wait to hear pen has been put to paper! A premature "welcome to Calgary, Mark!"

Well, no.. I'm saying the potential role is comparable which is all that matters. Otto and Yelle had very different styles anyways, Stephen was much more gritty than Joel. So it's a little odd to say any one player isn't like those two, when those two aren't the same.

If Mark went to the USHL after being drafted instead of the NCAA, would we have his rights for 5 years (after his senior year next season), or would we still have his rights for only 4 years?

Hopefully he can continue his trajectory so far in the AHL. Been pretty steady. A bit more of a jump in development would be nice but as long as he's improving can't complain.

It's no different than what any other College player faces. Is it a concern?

If he went to the USHL, he could have left college after his 3rd year and became a free agent on June 1st. If he stayed for his 4th year, they would had his rights for the additional year.

Seems like we had zero discussion that it would be a 2 year ELC. Maybe I just missed it.

Good on Brad for getting him signed and on a ATO as well.

There is no other option but 2 year.
