Ethics of eating meat
With the recent discussion of eating meat, I think its good to discuss it from both sides of the spectrum without attacking one another.
Over the past few years I've really learnt about the modern conventional methods of raising animals for meat. It really is inhumane; feedlots, confined animal pens, and I understand why one would decide to become vegan.
However, that isn't how all animals are raised. If your truly concerned, then there are other ways of buying meat from farmers and ranchers who share these same feelings on how animals evolved to be raised outside out on grass.

Stabbing the entire steak with your fork and raising it to your maw to naw the edges is considered bad form.

Does this thread win for the fastest derailment with the engine still going full steam ahead? This one almost started off off the rails, and just kept going faster.

I'll let the rest of you argue over who's more "ethical" while I enjoy my steak dinner.

You're clearly misinformed. Kosher meat and Halal meat is killed the most ethical way.

I think one of the problems that someone that shares SHOGUN's views would have, at least in convincing me, is that I just feel pretty bombarded with liberal views on how I should or should not live my life. It's good that our society moves towards a better way of living, don't get me wrong, but it just feels like I am always constantly being told what to do. And my natural reaction is to get a bit defensive and say nah.
While I'd like to think I'm an ethical person, I'm not sure I've crossed the line to unethical because I choose to eat meat. I understand there are wasteful processes that go into producing meat, and I understand that people may feel humans are inhumane in the way we create and sell meat in a factory process, but to me all animals are a lower form of life than humans.
That's pretty much the crux of my view. All animals are a lower form of life, not equal, and humans have bodies that obviously are omnivorous. We have evolved this way.
The question I asked in the GMG thread that went unanswered by SHOGUN because he can't answer it, is where he draws his arbitrary line as to what is or is not acceptable to consume as a life form. The difference between us is that he draws a random arbitrary line and values some life forms over others, whereas I don't.

By slitting it's throat and letting it bleed out?
"This method of slaughtering animals consists of using a well-sharpened knife to make a swift, deep incision that cuts the front of the throat, the carotid artery, trachea, and jugular veins."

You're clearly nuts if you think halal slaughter is ethical. Just do some basic reading. There isn't a vet on the planet that will tell you it is the less suffering alternative. 85% of halal slaughter in England is done after the animal is stunned. Freaking Muslims don't even think it's humane.

I don't think it makes any difference as to how the poor bloody things spends the last thirty seconds of its life, how reasonable was its life before it got to the slaughterhouse is the part that matters.
