What is up with "time shifting"
I see it as a selling point on the Bell Sales tools.
Do you actually set things up to watch in different time zones?
or
If you want to watch a show at 8pm are there just affiliated channels across the country that permit you to watch your favorite show at 8pm in every time zone?

You get something other than Boston on Bell? I'd be curious to know what channels those are on, because anybody I know gets Boston only for East, and Seattle only for West.

That's it exactly. Sometimes with Canadian channels you can have as many as 5 different time zones at work, but with the US stuff it's only east and west.

Time shifting is awesome. Lets me watch Simpsons/American Dad/Family guy at 6:00pm on Sundays, so I can make it out to my 10:00pm hockey game.
Also good if you missed a show...you can just catch it in another time zone. Between that and having a PVR, there's no way you'll miss a show on a time-shifted network!

I have Starchoice, but the timeshifting is great. Watch any show you want early. The prime time schedules are often set for the East and Pacific zones, so you can catch the primetime block from 6pm to 9pm from the east. (and if it is on NTV (Newfoundland TV) it can be even earlier). It is also good if there are good shows that overlap. Just watch one from one timezone, one from another. CBC Calgary blacking out the Stamps game? Watch it on CBC Ott (or Mtl, or TO, or WPG, or REG...). Yeah, there is a lot of duplication, but it is sometimes interesting to see what is going on in the local news from other places. I grew up in London On, so I sometimes watch CFPL news. And with a PVR (I built my own - MythTV) I record the early shows and watch them when I want.

The real beauty of the PVR is you can automatically set it to record every instance of a show. Say you want to record Survivor, you find the first instance of it and set it to record it every week automatically - and you don't have to remember to put those pesky tapes in the VCR.

For HD, go with Bell. Most content of any providers that I am aware of. If HD isn't the selling point, I don't think there's a compelling reason to choose one over the other.

I wish Starchoice had Centre Ice. I wonder if this will ever happen?

Has anyone else noticed this. I just bought a 27" LCD TV and a Bell PVR (not the HD) one. I love the PVR but on occasion I'd like to transfer a show that I PVR'd onto video or DVD so that I can keep it forever. The only problem I noticed with this was when I was transfering a show I PVR'd to videotape the show ended up being somewhat dark and there was a bit of ghosting. Anyone else have this problem?

I burn stuff to DVD from my 5900 all the time. Never noticed anything like that.
I go from a 5900 to a Panasonic DVD recorder. I also use the composite cable. Are you using composite or S-video?

You don't get any Detroits? The W networks, WDIV etc.....
Just a guess, but maybe you need to subscribe to the time shifts?

OK, Red, can you tell me what channels those Detroit stations are on? For example; what channel do you get WDIV on?

I can personally say that PVR has changed the way I watch TV. Now when ever I go to the inlaws I just get frustrated watching regular TV. Me and my wife just set it to record everything we want that day. By time we get home and settle in front of the TV, with the help of time shifting, a couple shows have already been recorded. Now we just sit and watch all the shows with out commercials and by time we make it to the last show it has all been recorded.
That is great and all but my new favorite thing I like to do for flames games is listen to the game on the net and watch it on the TV. What about the delay you ask? Not a problem with the PVR you just sync it with Mahr and you are good to go.

I don't have BEV. I was just saying that a lot of those 30+ HD channels BEV advertizes are the same networks with same programming.
How many HD channels do you get in Calgary? (if that's where you live)

OK, that explains it.
Bell has 2 US feeds; one out of Boston and one out of Seattle. So those would be 10 of the HD feeds.
CBC, CTV (east & West), City, SRC and Global.
Sportsnet, TSN, Discovery, WGN, Rapters, Oasis, A&E, Movie Central (2 channels), Equator, Rush, and Treasure.
So that's 28 HD Channels. Or if you prefer 22 unique channels. With Bell talking about 30 they also factor in the PPV channels.

There are also 2 HD feeds for Center Ice. They are the most important, IMO!
NFL Center Ice has some as well, I believe.
