That's the problem with setting the precedent. Everyone wants the same thing in the future.

If you're implying that we wouldn't have been in on Hamilton (22 y/o 6’6", career .5ppg RH defenceman) because we had "another top four defenceman" in Maata, I am genuinely certain you haven't a clue what you're talking about.
|
Again, I never said that. I'm tired of trying to carry on a conversation with someone looking for a fight.

These sub conversations about what would have happened to the defense over the last few years if we'd drafted a d-man first in Jankowski's class are really futile.
If Back to the Future 2 taught us anything, it's that we can't mess with the fabric of time without completely altering time-lines.
Way too many variables to consider.

Not really. They did it for Arnold and Gaudreau one year and Van Brabant the season before. Both times, the Flames were long out of contention.
Last year, we signed Kenney Morrison and didn't burn a year because we had more important things to worry about. He still signed with us when he could have gone any where else.
Regardless, Jankowski is not heading for a Gaudreau/Monahan 2nd contract. Let's just see how he handles his first taste of NHL action

I think it is a done deal as well. I want Janko to play with the Flames but I suspect they are trying to get him to the AHL.

They also did it for Agostino and Hanowski. That's 5 of 6 college guys in our system. We have set a precedent. Morrison is the exception not the rule.

I bet one of the big reasons they'd like to be able to send him to Stockton is that if he signs an NHL deal for this season, they'll have to send Freddie back down because they won't be in a roster emergency situation anymore. Although, I suspect if that does happen, they'll just convert Freddie to a regular call-up.

Don't forget that if he did burn a year, he'd have to be protected in the expansion draft should there be one in June 2018.
Given that Winnipeg is struggling with this same fact with Kyle Connor it might be a strong possibility that either Las Vegas or another team enters the NHL for the 2018-19 season.

Which is kind of moot in the Flames case. They may have no choice but to burn a year or Jankowski walks.
The Jets still have 3 more years to sign Connor so they have control.

I still can't believe the Bruins didn't take Connor with one of those three middle of the first round picks.

They could've had Connor, Barzal and Zboril

Yeah It's amazing what the Wolverines have done with Larkin/Connor. Now imagine what they could do with a coach that wasn't 77 years old.

Even if he doesn't pan out over the next few years, he will have some trade value down the road, be it a 3rd or another change of scenery prospect

I'm guessing that if the Flames offered him a couple NHL games this year this would be done already. I recently met a Flames employee (with a fairly significant role) at a corporate event and he told me he'd be "shocked" if this deal didn't get done.

Reading Treliving's comments it sounds like they more or less told Jankowski to rest and let them know when he's feeling better.

Yeah. Cuz we were trying to make the playoffs.
If that's not a concern, why would we not burn the year?
