All? Who said all? Don't put words in my mouth. That said, I'd imagine most ARE in person.

For this specific scenario; Small, sensative negotiating window. In person is most efficient.

That was my point. If there was nothing imminent the Flames would not have boots on the ground. The Flames are obviously there to get a signature, otherwise they could have easily made contact with the agent through a simple phone call to see where Jankowski's head was. You don't send guys to talk initial details of a contract, you send them to close. If Jankowski isn't signed by Monday I will be shocked.

Its too late to withdraw. Like I said, finals should be happening soon.
I never suggested an entire semester, but at most a couple of courses. One would expect that they may not have a full course load (and are likely enrolled in some courses that have modified schedules), and the university is going to be accommodating of their most prominent student athletes in that situation. At worst, if arrangements are impossible for a course or two, they probably aren't going to let that stop them from coming to the big leagues. W's don't normally affect GPA either. And unless you've read Providence's specific protocols, you don't know if it's too late. And it's almost never too late with the right faculty signature.

As far as I know there shouldn't be too much to negotiate right?

Both parties are probably familiar with what bonuses are available. Just a matter of what the Flames are offering and perhaps he counters with some that are easier to achieve.

Salary/Bonus and term shouldn't be a sticking point correct? Max salary/signing bonus for 2 years?

Can't imagine it will be. I like the fact that we are on the up and up with these signings, our management learned with Tim Erixon that we need to find out whether it's going to happen or not. If it's the latter, then plan b is asset management.

Yeah since it happens, the university's must make exceptions. I can't see them taking on a smaller course load since they get their degrees in 4 years. I dont Providence's specific protocol, I just remember when I was doing my degree there was a withdrawal deadline.

I would expect them to work out some of the details over the weekend and announce this on Monday. They have a back to back in LA and Anaheim at the end of that week. Get him a few practices on the road and get him into one of those games.

Too bad he couldn't suit up right away like Johnny and Bill Arnold. First game could have been at the dome, against the defending cup champs, on Hockey Night in Canada!

Along with Pascall the Flames have several scouts and development personnel at the tourney as undersized defenceman John Gilmour, the Flames seventh round pick in 2013, is also a fourth-year Friar.

Also per Francis the Flames are making their offer on Saturday.

So, going from the joke of the draft to a player 29 teams are lining up to sign? Was that an actual positive article from Francis?

Its probably more like trying to make controversy over something that really isnt there.

It wasn't that he wasn't worth drafting and at this stage that he wouldn't be an asset for any team as a prospect, it was that he was taken in the first round. At least IMO.

If I did the math right and assuming Jankowski gets rookie max base salary, he will earn ~$62k in NHL salary if he he is added to the NHL roster today plus his signing bonus ($92.5k).

And then another 92k on July 1st. 240k in 4 months.really decent incentive to sign if you ask me.

He was always likely to be a first rounder, I think that has been pretty well documented. There were a number of teams looking at him.

Any chance playing him a game to start his contract screws us in the expansion draft? Or would him be a 4 year college player be irrelevant to the pro years. I really wish those rules were hashed out by now.

another bonus to signing now that nobody is discussing is the fact the Flames will probably ask him to stay in Calgary over a portion of the summer to work on things that will help him make the NHL sooner.

I think it would be irrelevant. He would be a 2nd year pro next year.

Yeah two and a half weeks training, practicing, and exposure to the coaches would not suck. The bonus for him is now he can take all the Flames practice gear/clothes he can carry.

Interesting perspective not to sign Jankowski.

The 4 year progression of Jankowski would suggest otherwise especially considering his young age as a 4 year college player. His birthdate made him eligible for the 2011 draft by mere days (Sept 15th was the cutoff). (DOB: September 13, 1994)

I presume Mark was injured this past week limiting his icetime in recent overtime games.

How does it work? Can we sign him to a contract that doesn't start until next year. Is Janko really at the point in his development that we would burn a year of him as a pro at this point, or is it something we will likely have to do to ensure we can sign him? Just seems strange to burn a year on a player unless we think he's going to be ready to play NHL level next year?
