According to Wikipedia, the original draft lottery had that condition. The "no more than four spots" condition was eliminated in 2013.

He is wrong.

Did someone put him in his place? They changed the rules years ago. The only way he wouldn't have known is if he didn't follow the draft at all in the last three years

That's pretty brutal for a "professional". What a maroon

he's wrong on two counts...

not only has the lottery changed, but also, the season isn't over and the Flames can still move down in the standings

@albertGQ Or maybe it's just a guy who got one rule mistaken. Bruce Arthur is a pretty smart guy, don't go based off one ill-conceived tweet.

That's a pretty big mistake for someone paid to follow hockey.

Oh no, is it a scandal? Shame on you, Bruce Arthur, for forgetting a single rule in the CBA! He's a journalist, not Jay Feaster.

Even if he did forget the changes to the lottery (which is weird since that's been a major topic of conversation around the NHL all season), his point doesn't make any sense since the Flames are right in the mix with all the other teams he mentioned.

When he tweeted that, it looked pretty likely that the Jets were going to win tonight and the Flames would lose, which puts them in an exact tie with each other (and Winnipeg is ahead on the tie-breaker). There's only 3 points separating them all, and every team has at least 6 games left.

And to pile on the Feaster mistake, it's worse because he comes from a law background and should know the rules pretty well.

Are we 100% sure about this? TheScore app shows us as being ahead of the Jets right now, as well as last time we were tied in points.

Not a scandal but makes him look bad. I don't see other respected hockey analysts/journalists making these kinds of mistakes.

Even if he didn't know the rule change, there is enough games in the season for the Flames to get the 1st overall pick under the old rules

The standings on NHL.com have the Jets ahead.

It looks it's down to goal differential, so the Flames losing by 4 and the Jets winning by 3 is enough to swing the difference (Winnipeg's at -27 and Calgary's at -30 after tonight's games).

Not really. Feaster was an interpretation of a mou, albeit wrong, not knowing about every team in the draft lotto is eligible to move to first is bizzare. There are draft lottery specials and oodles of draft simulators. All you have to do is follow one sports reporter in Canada and you would be informed.

The Jets currently have the tiebreaker.

We're tied at 68 points, so it goes to ROW which is also tied.

So in that case:
Quote:
The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included.
Jets won in Winnipeg 3-1.
Flames won in Calgary 4-1, but this one doesn't count in the tiebreaker.
Flames won in Calgary 4-1.

So both teams earned 2 points in the season series, so it goes to the 3rd tiebreaker:
Quote:
The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. NOTE: In standings a victory in a shootout counts as one goal for, while a shootout loss counts as one goal against.
Jets sit at -27 goal differential, Flames at -30.

It's damn close though!

I've seen it speculated that the actual tiebreaker is GF divided by GA to once again to try and eliminate a tie.

WPG: 190/217 = 0.8756
CGY: 204/234 = 0.8718
