This is really asking would you rather see the Flames get the conditional first or Iggy make it to the 2nd round.
It's a non starter.

If you eliminated all "pointless discussion", CP wouldn't exist.

I think Dallas wins it all this year, they run over Colorado. Dallas is reaching peak form at the best possible time. Tough fight against Washington but Dallas has too much on offense, Ovechkin slumps and Lehtonen carries them to a 4-2/4-3 win.

I'm surprised there is any debate. How anyone could put a former player above the team is not something I can relate to.

Seems like I'm the only one that would rather see iggy win the cup than get the pick. As nice as it would be to get that first round pick... I would much rather Iggy get his name on the cup.
That being said... If Dallas and Colorado meet in a series it will be a win-win situation in my opinion.

How is Iggy to blame for Feaster's incompetence?

Now this I agree with. He should have signed with a top 2 team in the conference, top 3 in the league. A division winner with a Jack Adams winning coach. A top 3 team in goals. A team with a first overall Calder winner and a couple other young studs.
Oh wait.

Looking at the poll results, I'd say there really is no debate at all among CPers

To the extent that Feaster had a trade in place with Boston for (arguably) a much better return (at least at the time).
Boston and Pittsburgh were the only 2 teams Iggy exempted from his NMC. I've been informed that the Boston players were already told they were on their way to Calgary.
Feaster came to Iggy to let him know he had honored his wishes. Iggy nixed it, said he would only go to Pittsburgh, and Feaster had to go back to Pittsburgh with his tail between his legs and settle for whatever the Pens were willing to part with. A b-level and c-level prospect and a late 1st rounder.
It was totally within Iggy's right to do so, but he could have been more honest with his management group and enabled them to get the best return possible for a team he was as loyal to as to sign a NMC.
Still an Iggy fan, but like Regehr's goonery last season, it's tainted a bit.

Well, even though I disagree, you have a much more level-headed and realistic view of what happened vs "Iggy screwed us".
People probably don't want to see this all re-hashed again, so I'll leave it at that.

It's pointless because Colorado isn't a contender.
Didn't think that point was difficult to comprehend.
This thread seems to insinuate if Colorado upsets Dallas, they make a long run. The chances of that are beyond miniscule. Even if the Avs beat Dallas early, they're not getting by Chicago or LA.
I could see this being a valid discussion if Iggy played for Chicago or LA, but once again, this is essentially asking would you rather we have a shot at a first round pick or see Iggy get to the 2nd round.
It's really not a good gauge for sentiment when looking at it realistically.

If he thought Colorado was his best shot, I guess he's not that great at assessing how good a hockey team is. Everyone and their dog thought that they wouldn't replicate that result, especially after letting Stastny go. Colorado wasn't the best bet, not even top 10 at the time. An overachieving lot that relied too much on goaltending and then exchanged their elite 2-way #2 center for an aging, offense first winger. Mix in a shallow defense with a lack of depth in their bottom 6 and it wasn't surprising at all that they faltered when everything didn't go exactly right for them two years in a row.
I truly believe he took the best offer, and you know what? All the power to him. He also got a chance to play with some old chums, which I'm sure factored into his decision. Don't kid yourself though, there were many other places where he had a better chance, but he would've had to settle for a more modest salary and a shorter term. He wanted to get paid again, and he did. Again, all the power to him.

This isn't even the slightest consideration. Stars. Truth be told I don't even care what Iginla does good or bad. If he was in the finals I probably would root for him but definitely don't see myself cheering for the Avs any time before that because of Iginla.

Don't kid myself? Don't kid yourself. Neither one of us know what his motivations are/were. He signed with what was a top team at the time. Period. Whether your dog's crystal ball said so or otherwise is irrelevant.
What we know about Iginla - he's one of the greatest of his generation, he wants to win a cup, he's a family man, he always gets paid what he's worth. Maybe he didn't want to bounce around on a yearly basis as a hired gun. It's not like he signed a seven year deal with the Hurricanes. He chose a team that offered him stability, $$$, and, drumroll, a team that had the pieces for a cup run. How much weight he gave those individual things when making his decision is also - irrelevant. Because we'll never know. He also chose a team on the upswing, hence the three years. Maybe you take a step back in year 1, but you have the pieces to make a run in years 2 and 3.
"If Iginla was truly interested in a cup" larf. Yeah, I'm sure he has no interest in one. If only the world was so black and white as your view of it. Why did he exercise his NMC to one single team in PIT? Why did he sign in BOS? Pretty rudimentary logic.

But he didn't. Colorado wasn't a top team; it was a team that had one good season and then lost a key piece. It would have been foolish to assume that his chances of winning the Cup were maximized by signing in Colorado, and most of us don't believe that Iginla is a fool.
