No idea what the input costs are though. And, at least initially, taxes would have to keep the prices equal/competitive to, or even under cut, street prices, or you're negating the whole reason for doing it.
Zero chance of this. It hasn't happened in states that have legalized it.

Black market costs are cheaper then stores. However, how you get a lot of people who purchase who wouldn't go to the black market, and others where the cost doesn't matter vs convenience

There's a reason very few people role their own cigs despite it being cheaper to buy tobacco and role.

If it's legalized, and used as tax revenue, there is absolutely ZERO chance they will let the average Joe grow his own brand and sell privately.

It will be massively regulated. If you are growing on your own after it's legalized it will essentially be tax evasion. I suspect once (or if) its legalized, the criminal punishment for having your own grow op will increase exponentially.

Not a chance it will be a free for all.

It will be like booze.

You can brew your own beer for personal consumption because it's a free ####ing country ain't it, but you can't sell it to others.

Fair enough, I think. But people will still grow weed and sell it, just like some people distill moonshine and sell it.

Unfortunately you are right. They will probably go the big corporate route. It's too bad. I'd prefer then to keep it small. Let people grow small amounts.

There will still be entrepreneurial "craft" growers I'm sure.

Yes you can make your own beer and wine for personal consumption but if memory serves distilling alcohol is prohibido? Regardless of where it goes?

Talked with a few people about this and they all seem to think you will be able to rig a hydro setup in the front window and go to town. Not a chance.

Time to diversify the Alberta economy. All the service companies going under that were renting shop space can be converted to grow ops.

http://time.com/4011355/denver-marij...ouse-shortage/

Wouldn't that be funny. Oil industry implodes, pot industry takes over. Alberta profits.

I'm being pretty facetious in my posts here, but it's an interesting topic.

I imagine people will be allowed to grow a few plants for 'personal consumption' reasons, which would probably be limited to a few plants that have to be grown indoors. That should be sufficient discouragement to keep people buying weed in stores and paying taxes. Indoor grow ops have significant start up costs, requires constant maintenance and the smell will dominate your home, it'll be a lot simpler to just roll up to your local dispensary and buy some space cake that will beat the pants off anything you can cook up at home.

Are we not already able to have a plant or two without criminal charges? I'm not sure. But I seriously doubt the govt would allow such a thing. They are not gonna look at it from a convenience standpoint, or a potency standpoint, they will only view that as...

"Giving people the ability to grow their own means they will and that equals zero for the tax income."

Potency isn't something the govt can only achieve anyways. I read an article years ago about a govt operated grow up in Saskatchewan, and the clients quit getting their dope from there, and were back purchasing from their "buddy." They had enough complaints they actually contacted and brought in people with previous cultivation charges so they could teach our public employees how to grow dope worth smoking.

Never mind the fact that some people who cultivate will carry on doing so because they enjoy it. Like grandma and her tomato plants, it's a hobby.

Yeah, it's a real pain when the RCMP busts me with cigarettes now and asks me where the tobacco was grown.

It's a real headache this days to be a smoker, I tells ya.

Yeah it depends on how it's distributed/regulated. If it's basically a centralized industry, then the quality would probably end up suffering.

If it's privatized, however, hold onto your f***ing hat. If there's one thing privatization will do, it would spark a pretty tough fight for who can produce the best stuff.

It should be private.

More jobs, more tax revenue, everyone wins.
