Will be interesting to see where the money comes out since first few years are RFA years. If Johnny's contract starts with a 7 and Monahan with a 6, will everyone be happy? If for the maximum term.
I suppose if you look at it with no attachment to the players at all, you have to ask: Are these the guys to lead us to the Promised Land?
IMO you almost have no choice. They are our stars and we need to build around them. They would be nearly impossible to replace with comparable quality players.

Its a face swap filter on snapchat that swaps some of the facial features of two people. Gaudreau probably used this filter and posted the picture on snapchat.

The Tarasenko contact would have to be the closest comparable and you'd have to admit it looks better for Johnny. I'm not so sure it starts with a 7. It's fine they're UFA years, but he's also top ten in points in year two of his career. That means not only is he proving he's one of the top 10 of 700 NHLers for points, but he's still got room to improve.
Who was the last to do that?

I've thought the same thing. At a certain point you just have to go for it, lock up your good young guys, and charge full speed ahead. It usually takes years to get to a situation like we're in now with so much young talent set up in various positions. Especially with Gio not getting any younger, I say "this is the core", and want the extensions to be completed accordingly. Peripheral tweaking can always be done along the way.

Every time I think we're about to get raked over the coals Treliving comes through. I hope he pulls another rabbit out of his hat and locks both guys up long term on team friendly deals that will allow us to add a Lucic or Okposo in free agency.
