Man, Cancer got him. That's really sad - no one deserves to go out like that.

Terrible politician and a blind ideologue. But he and his brother genuinely care/cared for their communities. I think he was a good person who meant well, but lacked a certain amount of empathy that could cut through his narrow view of the world. I heard stories from people who live in the northern-most part of etobicoke, they were running some local event when the Ford brothers randomly showed up. It was under attended until they made a few phone calls to mobilize the community.

It was no accident that they built a strong following. I remember during the federal election there was a story of how some people had Ford signs on their lawn beside the federal liberal candidates.

In their own way, they still cared about building a community that comes together to support each other... Their approach to politics was just too short sighted.

RIP, Rob.

I wasn't a fan. I don't get the "at least he was genuine" argument when most of the things he was genuine about are bad things. David Duke is a genuine guy too, but doesn't deserve respect. Plus, he was constantly lying about everything. I question the morals of anyone who supports him politically. He was connected to organized crime and was in charge of the police budget. That is as corrupt as you can get.

Having said that, no one deserves to suffer like he did. For the past few days here, he has been on his deathbed so not surprising.

The guy was a legend in his own right. His response to Olivia Godnek's remarks had me laughing and crying at my keyboard. Straight out of Trailer Park Boys or Kevin Spencer!

I'll never forget the time that I was visiting my buddy in Toronto and I were drunk waiting for pizzas at Domino's around 9 pm on a Friday night. He got a phone call, answers the phone, and it is Rob ####ing Ford. Apparently they met at a York football game, and Ford gives out his business card to everybody he meets. My buddy texted him about something later, and this was Ford responding to it, like he apparently did personally for every person that called him.

I feel bad for his family, specifically his wife and kids. Regardless of what he was like as a politician, he was a father and a husband, and it's sad his kids are now without their dad who they no doubt loved, regardless of his flaws.

You could do a complete thread of Rob Ford quotes/GIF's and miss-steps.

I dunno, his wife seamed to be afraid of him and called the cops several times. Maybe she will be relieved it is all over....

May not have agreed with the guy on... well, anything, but he was too young to go, and like that on top of it.

It never ends with his supporters, though. I read some comments from a friend-of-a-friend on Facebook blaming the Toronto Star for giving Ford cancer.

Sad for his family, who seem to have loved him.

I can think of a few people who actually deserve cancer.

For what it's worth, his passing made American news today.

I did not like him one bit, but I'm not happy he got sick and died young. RIP Rob.

Yeah he made the news. The headline I read was "Toronto's former Crack smoking mayor dies".

Not exactly how one would want to be remembered.

On NPR they were a little more tactful.
