What if they just reversed what is the current case? Retros as the primaries, Black C version as the alternate?
This has to be the best place to poll Flames fans' thoughts on this type of stuff. You'd think a 3/4 vote would be a sealed and shut case for the retros.

Makes some sense actually - go back to the retro for next year since it's an already designed and established product.
Then we likely see a whole new set in the 17-18 season once ADIDAS takes over the branding and uniforms for the NHL.

If the abominations that Addidas created for the World Cup are any indication, I don't want them rebranding anything for the Flames. I mean, what the heck is that thing on the front of the Canadian jersey??? How go you screw up a white maple leaf???

I do like the retro palette without the black - be it the 80's style or brand new style we are going to have. Just no black on the primary jersey please.

Dude, do you really like those angled podium jerseys best? I always thought it looked like a cigarette package.

Retros all the way. Those are just damn beautiful jerseys. I don't mind the current thirds, but I don't really like the current home and away jerseys. There are too many lines on it. It's so disjointed.
Lastly, everyone, please.. when referring to eras, it's just 80s, 90s, etc.. There's no need for an apostrophe.

I can't see them ever eliminating black as an accent colour, but I'd like it toned down a lot to be just that -- an accent to the primary colours of red & yellow.
They need black because it allows them to create more merchandise that's "fashion-friendly" -- hats, sweaters, jackets, etc. I remember in the early 90s, I had one of those hooded, pullover jackets that were popular at the time. It was red, white, and yellow, and stuck out like a sore thumb. At the same time, jackets for teams like SJ, LA were primarily black with their signature colours in small doses....and those were much more popular amongst the kids.

Yeah.... But it's not the 90s anymore where everyone just dressed in black and dark grey. Plus if they really wanted, they can still make black gear for fans to wear.

The organization could get a better sense of what fans prefer by polling season ticket holders and those who attend games, rather than a few hundred people in an online poll.

I doubt the result would be any different and I'm not sure why you would think it would be different.

I have no idea if it would or wouldn't be. Just pointing out that there's better ways of determining what fans would want than an online poll.

Not to put words in his mouth, but I think he's suggesting it would be a more concrete opinion, polling ten thousand people vs. a few hundred.

I highly doubt that Adidas actually designs any of the team logos, I doubt they designed the World Cup ones.
The jerseys themselves are all that Adidas will have a hand in, and for the most part they did a really good job of those for the World.
Agree that whoever designed the Canada logo should be ashamed though.

I dunno, I think it's awesome. I didn't like it at first, but I think that's because I had an expectation of how it should look.
The more I see it now, the more I love it. I actually could see this becoming a Canadian Hockey icon.
Edit:
Instead of creating a 3rd post on it... I'll put it here.
After the World Cup reveals, I actually feel quite the opposite from what I thought I'd feel. I assumed they'd be sublimated messes, but they actually look quite nice. I don't know how I feel about the NA colours yet, but overall they look pretty great when they aimed to create a classic and clean design.
Team USA looks amazing:
Canada looks cool, and the risky design decision makes sense:
And Sweeden looks incredible:
I actually have hope. You can see the template they worked with on creating most of the jerseys, and the design language they tried to unify these teams with. It's a pretty classic style that they flourished with some modern touches; which are expected and allowed for limited edition jerseys, and something they can offer on NHL 3rds. Yet, a great starting point for solid primaries.

Judging from the language they used when presenting the jerseys, I think they actually had a surprising amount of freedom with designing themselves.
For example:
When talking about the Canadian jersey:
"a modern interpretation of the national icon—the maple leaf"
Talking about Team USA:
"national emblems and banners inspire an unapologetic shield and word mark."

Any place to get sales figures for the re-release of the Retro a few years back? I am guessing they didn't sell as good as the organization was expecting or we would not have seen that $20 retro fire sale a few years back and flames move on.
Not hating on the Retros, but if they are so overwhelmingly loved than how come the fans didn't prove it a few years ago?

I think sales like that come when they've made a decision to discontinue, not as a measurement of popularity.
The retros were popular and were discontinued and probably sold quite well. Where as the third will be bleak in sales.

Just checked Jersey City in Chinook Mall for the thirds. They're currently $70 (from $140), has tons of every possible size, and no named jerseys are available. Does anyone know if other stores (Sportchek, etc) will follow suit?
