Fun Fact: Monahan's now tied for 27th in league scoring. Gaudreau is 7th, and Mark Giordano is tied for 59th.

On February 15th, Johnny was still 7th in league scoring. However, no other Calgary Flames players were even in the top seventy in scoring.

Was it Anaheim that signed Getzlaf and Perry to new deals at the same time? I would love to see a presser with Johnny and Mony side by side having just inked new contracts concurrently.

Toews and Kane did as well I believe.

I think in both cases the players got identical deals but I do think Johnny will get more money than Sean. Both players will win games but Gaudreau also sells tickets and is because Kong the face of the franchise

I think they'll get the exact same 7 x 7 deals.

I feel like people overlook the difficulty of the position he plays. I think the difference in point totals between Johnny and Mony is made up by the fact that Mony plays C. I say this as a career right winger.

I think Johnny will get a smidge more than Mony, but I wouldn't be shocked if they signed identical deals, nor would I be opposed to that. Mony is integral to the success of this club.

From HFBoards, regarding Monahan's ranking among his draft class:

Post:
Can you even come close to predict 7 better players [than Monahan]?

Reply:
Well, you'd start with the top 5. Maybe Nichushkin. Possibly Nurse. And would you look at that I hit 7.

Reply:
MacKinnon, Barkov, Drouin, Jones, Lindholm, Nurse, Ristolainen, Nichuskin, Horvat, Domi, Mantha. Lol.

Just because Monahan has had a very good season and a half to start his career doesn't make him the best player from his draft. Others have yet to play a game. Wait a few more years. That's like trying to decide who the best player from the 2014 NHL draft is

Why are you posting this?

If you want to deal in this smut, why not just post there and save us all from having to hear stuff like this? It's why many of us don't go there.

Was really looking forward to seeing a Boring Sean Monahan tweet. Something like:

"I asked Coach Hartley if getting 3rd star of the week was cool and he said "yeah".

To further illustrate the league-wide underrating of Sean?

Meh, whatever.

Is it easier to put up points in a no pressure situation? Of course. That's not what this is about though, not this situation.
Is there any indication this is entirely stats based? John Scott got first star of the week scoring zero goals while playing zero official games.

At the end of the day, the 3 stars of the week don't mean anything. But placing Sid first and Sean 3rd while Sean's stats are better confirms that it is not strictly stats based.

Sid got his points in huge divisional games for his team during the stretch drive while their 2nd best player is injured. That to me would place his performance ahead of Sean. And the NHL saw the same thing.

^ In what world are assists suddenly quantified as worse than goals? Last I heard, they were both worth the same.

Can you score a goal without an assist?
Does the team with the most goals win the game?
Is there an award at the end of the season for the most goals?

The last thing the league is going to do on their official website, IMO, is make some games more important than others.

"Hey fans, we don't value the games that your team played, but you should keep paying full price for those seats, okay?"

That's not what they're saying. Some games are more important. Sometimes the NHL will switch start times of games late in the season that have playoff implications so they can fit NBC's schedule and be televised.

No one truly thinks all 1200 NHL regular season games are equal.

What Sid did while their 2nd best player is injured was more impressive than what Sean did in no pressure games. And the NHL acknowledged that by naming him 3rd star

Who cares? HF is filled with people who speak with authority on players they don't actually watch. What uninformed fans think is 100% irrelevant.

To be fair Ristolainen looks like he could be the next Pronger. I think he'd easily go top 5 in a redraft.

1. Barkov
2. Ristolainen
3. Jones
4. Monahan
5. MacKinnon

That's probably how I'd have it right now.

Looool CP, don't ever change.

Ya let's hear what a dallas fan thinks about Calgary's top centerman.

HF is 80% teenagers who are barely knowledgeable about their own team and act like they know everything about every team. All they want to do is troll other teams fans and prop up their own.

Of course CP is full of bias, but we at least know lot's about our own team and I believe generally make sound comparisons and have enough respect for other teams top players/prospect (except maybe Vancouver and Edmonton, but they had it coming).

Crosby has been better than Mony this week. Stats are helpful but don't tell the story for this week
