Yes....because Murray didn't want McDavid, he wanted control. His red face, temper tantrum, and near tears after learning he'd pick second (obviously hyperbole) showed that control was his endgame in last year's tank fest.

Great news for us that there's not a drop off until the teens. We need top 6 forwards and top 3 defence men so we should be set regardless of where the pick ends up.
Of course I'm hoping higher pick, getting your choice of players or being able to move up/down is better than hoping your favourite guy falls to you.

That's Tim Murray's assessment. Treliving and the scouts/staff who advise him might feel a lot differently.

Oh they won't agree on the order at all. But it would be unlikely IMO that Murray's staff sees the tiers as top 3 then 4-12 and our staff sees the tiers radically different. Slightly different? Sure. But I'm guessing if you asked Tod Button what the tiers in this draft are he'd have a similar answer to Murray. I don't expect their actual lists to be close and I bet we have some guys in that 2nd tier that BUF doesn't and vice versa. But I've heard from enough scouts that the talent drops off in the early to mid teens that I think there is consensus there even though who might be in that first 12-14 will be slightly different and in a different order for each team.

Any interest in Griffen Outhouse? Undersized goalie on a powerhouse Victoria team. From my limited viewings (1 game on SN) he seems incredibly athletic and mobile.
I think he would definitely be worth a late round pick.

His last name is Outhouse?
That's enough reason not to draft him for me. Force him to change it to Brickhouse and then we'll talk.

In general I don't have much interest in undersized goalies. A big, athletic goalie is much more likely to turn out than a small, athletic one. The problem is screen shots. A small goalie can only cover a certain percentage of the net. You can be the most athletic guy in the world but you'll never stop the shots you don't see unless you're big enough to cover the majority of the net. That's why big, athletic guys are favoured and will continue to be favoured. Covering a high percentage of the net also helps prevent tip goals. Most goalies under 6'1 or 6'0 just leave too much space for pucks to drift in IMO. I know some will disagree and point to some exceptional player who has overcome his size but unless they really are the best goalie in their age group I think it's a bad risk.
Big, athletic with quick reflexes. We've got one of those in Gillies.

FWIW, Benning said a top 12 at the Canucks season ticket town hall. So it seems to be consensus amongst hockey men that there is a top 12 and a drop off after that.
As you said previously, we'll be picking in that range so a good player is coming our way. As long as we stay away from Nylander and Keller, I will be happy.

I'd be fine with Nylander in the 6 to 10 range if they think he's the best prospect left. Keller doesn't really fit our needs with his size and position in my opinion

I'd be giddy if the Flames nabbed Nylander. Even if the Flames go down to 10-ish there's going to be Gauthier and Mcleod to fawn over. I'm pretty okay with more than a few picks down the ladder. Sergachyev? Don't mind of we do!

Top tier: Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi
Next tier: Tkachuk, Chychrun, Dubois, Juolevi, Nylander seem to be consensus in that second tier.
That gives us 8. Sergachev, Bean, Gauthier, McLeod, Fabbro, Jost, Keller and Jones would be candidates to be in that second group as well.

It's hard to get excited about Nylander given his fathers history here. Just don't see the appeal in a soft skilled winger, especially if you have players like McLeod Dubois and to a lesser extent gauthier on the board. Would even go for one of the d over Nylander.
Future considerations seems to have the best top 12 from what I've seen compared with Mckeens and iss. Would be interested in your top 10 as per your handle, you seem to be on top of things

If you look at the standings, can't see us outside of the top eight. Only way I see us lower than 8 is if teams picking above us win the lottery and slot us down.

There's a lot of talented guys this year. Even if we're picking 7-11th, they'll get a good player.
