What's the over/under on unscreened floaters from the blue line going in the Flames net against the Leafs?

just a thought.... i think on the last flames broadcast they said ortio had now played 'x' number of games which now makes him an rfa and not a ufa (i think - i wasn't really paying that much attention)
maybe that was the plan all along, to get his free agency status to change and then sit him?
again - i wasn't paying that much attention when they talked about it so someone with better knowledge on the subject might want to chime in

Funny thing is, the leafs will probably still find a way to lose cuz well .. they are no good.

The only way that Hiller is this team's #1 goaltender is in the number on his back.
Like it or not...

I don't see what the big deal is...
They played Ortio every night to get his RFA status established. And played him at home because that's who the fans want to see. Now they are going to give all the goalies some work. Seems like a reasonable strategy to me.

You should've heard Pat and Rob on the radio yesterday. Apparently Jonas has all but given up in practices - he really isn't into it. He knows he won't get another job here next year.
What's the point?

Genius deduction.
82 Games in a season.
Ramo; 37GP - Injured
Ortio: 16GP
Backstrom: Soon to be 1GP
Hiller: 24GP

The Flames paid a lot for Hiller, might as well get some more mileage off him.
Also Ortio has reached the RFA games-played threshold, maybe management wants to save him from suffering any catastrophic injuries (like what Ramo had)...
Again, why Backstrom was acquired? A 38-year old goalie who hasn't played a game in over a year? Even on a player dump and a draft pick grab? That puzzles me.

From what you're telling me, Karri Ramo is this team's #1 goalie, and he's hurt.
Just because the #1 gets hurt, the backup doesn't become the #1. He's the backup playing the most games. And right now, Joni Ortio is playing the most games. He'll likely have surpassed Hiller by the end of the year.

Wonder how Oreo feels about this. Unless the mgmt has told him he will be brought back and be allowed to compete for a job he really doesn't need to stick around Calgary anymore.
Tank or not, he still needs to prove a lot so I don't know they can say "ya you've shown us enough, you'll be back."

This tells me the team isn't sold on Ortio and wants to audition as many people as possible before the end of the year.
Or....
it tells me the team thinks that they need a veteran backup for Ortio next year and are auditioning Backstrom and giving Hiller a shot at the role.
or.....
tank city.

For a number 1 goalie Hiller sure misses a lot of starts.
What a silly argument.

Sounds like they don't want the dead weight that is Hiller to be a thing. Giving him a start is something to motivate him and maybe show the world that he is not over the hill just yet. I don't believe that for a second, he is absolutely hot garbage in my opinion, but it is what he believes.

Hiller has both the worst GAA and save percentage of those three, and it's not even close. How can the worst goalie of the bunch be the #1? Hiller is done as a Flame and very, very, very far away from being the #1 right now.

Because they keep playing him! The #1 guy is the guy you keep going back to.
Anyways, it doesnt really matter I just dont see that playing Hiller is akin to tanking.

but they don't. Again, Ortio started 8 of the last 9 ... Hiller hasn't started in weeks. In fact, if he starts vs Toronto, it'll be his first start in ~3 weeks. But it's been Jonis net for weeks now.

No, they aren't!
Hiller's played twice in the Flames' last 13 - and tonight, 14 - games!

Tank or not, you still have to start Hiller at least once more. Backstrom was promised games, it's fitting that he plays in Minnesota. Who knows, maybe Ortio starts all the way after that. Ortio had like, what, 5/6 straight games? He'll be fine
