As a guy who watches very little NCAA hockey, I can't help but think the general assessment of Jankowski is tinted by Flames colored glasses, either positively or negatively. It seems like there are a ton of NCAA players who are putting up better numbers than Jankowski, but let's face it very few people on this board know anything about those players.

But we follow Jankowski religiously. Some are married to him being a bust. Others see his progression and naturally assume it will translate to the NHL. I suspect many other NCAA players have the same progression and they may not get a sniff of the pros.

In this case, and have others have said, the best thing fans of Jankowski have to hang their hats on is his reputed very strong performance at last years development camp.

For me he is a total wildcard and I won't have any real opinion until he plays some pro games. Here's hoping he will be a strong young player for the team. My gut feeling is that if he makes the NHL, it is 2017/18 at the earliest.

I watch NCAA Hockey quite a bit and I am a big fan of Jankowski. I posted this in The Back Burner also, Jankowski hit 40 points over the weekend, he is the first Providence Friar to reach this milestone since 2002-2003. The main reason for this is the defence first philosophy employed by Nate Leaman and the Providence coaching staff.

In his 4 years at Providence he has rounded out his overall game while also being relied on as a leader(He is an Alternate Captain). This year has been a very nice year for Jankowski considering he dealt with injuries earlier in the year that caused him to miss out on being nominated for the Hobey Baker. One more thing I tend to always forget is he is playing his Senior year as a 20-21 year old.

His performance at camp pales in comparison to what he brings to his team night in and night out this year in Providence.

If there is one thing all of us can agree on though is that he is a polarizing figure among Flames fans.

This season, he is the 12th-youngest player on the team as a senior (of 27 players who have played at least one game).

Of the 11 players who are younger than him, 1 is a junior (third year); 3 are sophomores (second year); and 7 are freshmen (first year).

The rest of Providence's senior class is a minimum of a year older than Jankowski. Trevor Mingoia, who is second on the team in points, is almost three years older than Jankowski and he's only a junior.

How about this for some recognition:

http://www.friars.com/sports/m-hocke...031716aaa.html

Quote:
Providence College senior forward Mark Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) and sophomore defenseman Jake Walman (Toronto, Ontario) were named First Team Hockey East All-Stars, while Head Coach Nate Leaman was named the Bauer/Bob Kullen Award as Hockey East Coach of the Year. Junior goaltender Nick Ellis earned Honorable Mention All-Star recognition.

Jankowski leads the Friars with 40 points (15-25-40) and ranks fifth overall in the Hockey East with 26 points in 22 league games. He became the first Friar to reach the 40-point plateau since Jon DiSalvatore, Devin Rask, and Peter Fregoe all hit the mark in 2002-03. Jankowski also became the 51st member of the program to hit the 100-point milestone.
First team all-stars for the most difficult conference in the NCAA.

First team
Demko, Grzelcyk, Walman, R. Fitzgerald, O'Regan, Jankowski, Poturalski.

Second team
Boyle, Gross, McCoshen, Aston-Reese, Bjork, Letunov, White.

edit: and for the record everyone on the 1st team was nominated for the Hobey Baker except for Jankowski.

Providence loses in the Hockey East semi-final.

But before anyone gets excited and asks if Jankowski can sign yet, Providence will go to the National tournament that starts next week.

Frozen 4 is a one and done tournament yeah? Who does Providence match up with in round #1? Would be fascinating to see if they give Janko some NHL games for the rest of the year if his college team gets ousted early.

The matchups/bracket will be announced on Sunday.

I already outlined the scenarios Jankowski's season can end earlier in the thread

To make it more concise, his season can only end on the following days:

Lose at NCAA Regionals: March 25, 2016 - 8 Flames games left
Lose at NCAA Regionals: March 26, 2016 - 7 Flames games left
Lose at NCAA Regionals: March 27, 2016 - 7 Flames games left
Lose at Frozen Four Semi-Finals: April 7, 2016 - 1 Flames game left
Win or Lose Frozen Four Final: April 9, 2016 - 0 Flames games left

I wonder if Jankowski is one of the reasons that the Flames have been so cagey with the last two call-ups.

They still technically have to be invited, although it's almost a no-brainer due to their overall ranking.

Nah, if he's signed he doesn't count as a call up.

The lack of clarity on expansion draft rules may hinder his chance of playing a game this year.

They can sign him and burn a year for him, but playing him in a game makes him a 2nd year pro next season. Wouldn't want to have to expose him unnecessarily.

1st and 2nd year pros are exempt. If the expansion draft runs before the entry draft next year, as proposed, Jankowski and anyone in their 2nd year are not available. Even if Jankowski plays a game this year and burns a year off his contract he can't be selected.

NCAA Ice Hockey @NCAAIceHockey
The overall No. 4 seed and top seed in the Northeast Region in Worcester, Massachusetts is Providence!

Matchups to be announced in 20 mins. The NCAA National tournament is a one and done tournament. Lose 1 game and your season is over. If the Friars win both games @ the Northeast Regional they will go on to the Frozen Four in Tampa.

The scenarios for Jankowski and Gilmour's season to end are now

Lose 1st game at NE Regionals: March 25, 2016 - 8 Flames games left
Lose 2nd game at NE Regionals: March 26, 2016 - 7 Flames games left
Lose at Frozen Four Semi-Finals: April 7, 2016 - 1 Flames game left
Win or Lose Frozen Four Final: April 9, 2016 - 0 Flames games left

Providence will face Minnesota-Duluth on Friday.

If they win on Friday they will face the winner of BC vs Harvard on Saturday.

If they win Saturday they will go to the Frozen Four in Tampa.

I believe all the regionals will be shown on TSN2 or streamed on TSNGo

Friday's game will be at 2:30pm MT.

I hope both Providence and BC win on Friday so that at least one Flames prospect goes to the Frozen Four again.

Flames don't have any prospects at BC. You must be thinking of BU and Hickey.
