Never had any worry about Johnny leaving. Honestly... You would think his agent would advise him to go for as long a contract as possible. Injuries can really affect a player's whole career so having a guaranteed contract like that for 8 years is the smart move. Even if a player is unsure if he wants to stay in a certain city for that long... He always has the option of requesting a trade. Add in the potential of a limited no trade clause and you can have a chance at some control of where you play even with a long contract.

"They" who are stirring this up are Eric Francis, in a weak attempt to find content for his column and get a front page story on the trashy Sun. Nothing else. I prefer to read my trash news from the UK tabloids. At least there's the possibility of boobies.
Prior to this article, Gaudreau has publicly stated that he loves Calgary, the fans and the way he's been treated.
The limited about of respect I had left for Francis has left the building.
Whatever the Flames feel comfortable signing is ok with me. BT will make it work, with a nice deal for Monahan and putting the Flames in good position roster and cap wise for the future.

The great moral Eric Francis. Great he took time out of his tabloid journalism job to calm all of our fears.

If this guy had his way he'd be signed for $2million...and he calls himself a Flames fan.

Don't have to give him credit at all. Gaudreau is crap and as a Flames fan I have seen plenty of him to make that assessment.

Man, I come here so that I don't have to endure the HF dumpster...but people keep quoting stuff from there. HF posts belong in the I Don't Want To Live On This Planet Anymore thread.

Yeah let's please not spend our time discussing posts and posters on other sites, particularly ones banned from here. They aren't hear to defend themselves so it isn't really fair.

I'm 99% sure that's not the real moon. That guy on HF is a pure troll.
moon may have been a really negative poster, but he would usually back up his opinions and maintain a reasonable discussion. That HF moon has no intention of that.

Economists' projections do not support your assertion, with all due respect

I was talking about cap space, and frankly I couldn't give two craps about the Flames actually revenue vs. expense. Even if it were a concern, this is not the contract to nickel and dime on. You would jeopardize the team's long term competitiveness, and therefore potential revenues. But because you've quoted "economists' projections", you're probably right...the Flames should become a cap floor team if/until oil rebounds. Let's just make sure they're the same economists that predicted the decline in oil prices, the housing market crash or the burst of the .com bubble

That's actually something I've been wondering lately. I know it's off topic for the thread, but I don't know if a full-thread discussion is warranted (or welcomed) but why is HF such a pit but a forum like r/hockey is totally a decent place? I bet a good chunk of the posters are the same people, so why is HF full of idiotic "who's the five best left-handed, blonde, December-born Swiss centers of this generation " and almost every other hockey forum on the net a totally decent place?

Reddit's upvote/downvote system does a good job of filtering out the garbage from quality, I think.
